The purpose of this paper is to present tasks of contemporary preachers of the word of God in the context of the currently developing secularization processes. The processes require the initial zeal and enthusiasm of Apostolic preaching to pervade preaching the word of God. Among the most important tasks of preachers who preach in the secularized environment are: preaching with the blessing and in the name of the Church, preaching the word of God in spite of unfavorable circumstances and dangers, awakening the desire to meet Christ in listeners’ hearts and brave preaching at a crossroads. The final point of the paper offers analysis of the most important dangers contemporary preachers of the word of God must face.

The article discusses the influence of the technological factor on the perception of a homily preached during Holy Mass broadcast on the radio, television or via internet streaming. The preaching of the word of God is subject to the same laws as other live broadcasts. The homily listened to on the radio is devoid of a visual layer, and the homily broadcast on television or the Internet reaches the recipient in an edited visual version. The two forms differ from the homily heard and watched live in church. The conditioned perception of the medium through which the transmission takes place determines the reception of the content of the sermon. And although the supernatural effectiveness of the word of God is not determined by the communicative or rhetorical effectiveness, the media mediation in the reception of the sermon has an impact on its effectiveness.

This paper deals with Pope Francis’ inspirations for the ministry of the word. Through a qualitative analysis of the texts of his documents and interviews with him, the following inspirations were extracted: the primacy of preaching in a missionary key; preaching born of the experience; preaching born of accompanying people; preaching with joy; reaffirmation of the importance of homilies; the appreciation of the preparation of homilies and sermons. These inspirations of Francis for the ministry of the word are not new, but rather an extension of the teaching of Vatican II and the post-conciliar popes, especially Paul VI. They are relevant for a Church operating in the early 21st century in a secularized environment.

The message of Jesus Christ is at the very heart of homiletic teachings. The entire moral dimension of Christianity becomes personal and assumes a practical dimension in human conduct. Religion and morality show the novelty of Christianity and place human person in a relation to God, to himself and to the community. Over the centuries, the kerygma remains the core of proclamation, and man’s life situation becomes a space of cooperation with God’s grace. Extreme attitudes of rigorism and relativism result most often from the lack of unity in human attitudes and culture. They are characterized by moralizing and drawing conclusions detached from reality. The way of personal development is to discover the unity in God Himself and the with God. The preacher become a kerix and a mystagogue and draws from sources after the example of Church Fathers. Moral obligations remain distant from human being as long as they do not establish personal relationships.

Topics that have been taken in this article concern the role of Mary in the work of salvation and her place in the Christian life. The Church wants to talk about Mary without exaggerating and diminishing her merits. However, there are maximalist tendencies in Mariology that should be researched. The basis for these considerations was the Mariological theorems proclaimed by Fr. Dominik Chmielewski SDB, in which one can find some theological doubts.

The following text regards the possibility and manners of the Story Brand model, which has been created by Donald Miller, an American writer, speaker and businessman, as assistance in forming a clear marketing message for company representatives who are trying to convince customers to their products or concepts, in the process of the preparation of homilies and sermons. The author, maintaining the context of theological sciences, discusses the individual stages leading to the creation of an appealing and efficient speech, which will affect how the listeners think and act. Simultaneously, he brings out those elements which may assist in improving the quality of the homily. The reader stops at the seven “stops” of the SB7 model, which are supposed to lead them to the preparation of an efficient, and, above all, interesting and gripping message. Without prejudice to the teaching of the Church regarding the contents which should be included in the homily, the author suggests how to use the achievements of communication sciences for homiletic purposes, the result of which will be giving a proper structure to the message, which in this case is the homily preaching.

The homily is an act of communication that consists of three elements: the preacher, the listener, and the homily. The purpose of homilies is to update the message of salvation and encourage the faithful to live the gospel. The homily as communication should take place in a peaceful environment. If this is not the case, preaching and listening may result in suffering. The paper mentions several reasons why this happens. The preacher may suffer from a new cultural and religious circumstance, authority issues, impaired spirituality, personal difficulties, loss of enthusiasm and fear or excessive stage fright. For listeners, the torment of listening may be caused by unfulfilled expectations, a bad relationship with the preacher, or homilies that lack simplicity, are full of abstract sentences, are long or unprepared.

Universal internet access and technological innovation in posting audio and video content online has become a new media and social reality, which requires reconsidering the way God’s Word is preached in the modern world. New technologies offer new chances and greater opportunities to influence recipients who seek answers not only to existential, but also to spiritual, religious and transcendental questions. The more prominent online presence of God’s Word preachers and expanding their competences to include coaching and influencer’s skills creates opportunities for more fruitful evangelism and more effective presentation of evangelical content.

In the years 2012–2019, as part of two competitions financed by the National Program for the Development of Humanities (NPRH), 7 extensive volumes of an anthology of sermons were published. This „monumental work” (prof. Alina Nowicka-Jeżowa, University of Warsaw) contains on over four thousand pages the texts of sermons of both well-known and appreciated preachers and speakers of minorum gentium, a scientific commentary on them and a critical apparatus. A series with a joint title is: Kazania w kulturze polskiej. Edycje kolekcji tematycznych (Sermons in Polish Culture. Editions of thematic collections) „is slowly growing into one of the most important in the Polish humanities of the 21st century” (prof. Roman Mazurkiewicz, Pedagogical University). After years of neglect, the project’s research team resumed extensive work on this vast and hitherto unknown resource of sermons. The article presents the state of research on the history of Polish preaching, the assumptions of Kazania w kulturze polskiej (Sermons in Polish Culture) and the research teams participating in it, the criteria for selecting the texts of sermons, achievements in the project implementation and critical comments indicated by the reviewers.

The article addresses the topic of the spiritual use of cemeteries. From the multitude of aspects for which cemeteries are of spiritual use, we have chosen the following: (1) the cemetery – the place of many soul-building miracles; (2) the cemetery – a place of light and comfort; (3) the cemetery – a place to gain humiliation, crying, tears; (4) the cemetery – a place of obtaining the thought of death; (5) the cemetery – a place to learn to die, to move from death to life. It is concluded that a cemetery of hundreds of years, in which they are buried generation after generation, it represents – next to the church – the most precious spiritual treasure of a parish.

The Incarnation of the Word of God between Niceism and Arianism in the IVth century. The incarnation of the Word is the main theme debated by St. Athanasius throughout his theological and dogmatic works. First, incarnation theology has an anti-pagan connotation, as pagans derided Christians’ faith in the incarnation of the divine Logos, and, on the other hand, the Alexandrian bishop developed the theme of the incarnation against the Arians who denied the divinity of the Son and promoted a “creationist” doctrine of Christ. Between niceism and arianism, the theology of the incarnation knew several forms of theological expression, starting from the Arians, followers of Arius, to the neo-Arians, reinvented by Aetius and Eunomius, passing through the theology of the Homeans, who claimed the resemblance of the Son to the Father, to it culminated in the Homoiousians, those who came closest to the dogma of the Nicene Creed and who would finally embrace Niceism. The Cappadocians use in their theology of the incarnation the intuitions and arguments of Athanasius to overcome any other doctrine that would oppose or contradict the Niceno homoousian dogma, the consubstantiality of the Son with the Father, namely, the Son is God like Father.

The modern world, largely dominated by information and communication technology, poses new pastoral challenges, one of them evangelization and catechization on the Internet. This study was aimed at investigating and analyzing the image of marriage and family on parish websites in the Archdiocese of Warmia. The qualitative analysis of informational and visual messages on marriage and family available on parish websites of the Archdiocese of Warmia showed that the content on these issues is rarely updated. Information is limited to the conditions for entering the sacrament of marriage and preparing the betrothed to confer this sacrament upon each other. It is sometimes extended to other pastoral aspects such as encouraging families to pray together, celebrating family events, organizing holidays for children and youth, offering information on the domestic church community. Therefore, more attention must be paid to the importance of parish websites in creating the image of marriage and family. In order for this space to be fully utilized, seminary alumni must be properly prepared in the fields of media education and pastoral family care.

Furthermore, Francis encourages specific pastoral activities to defend the truth about marriage and family.

The Church must continually ask herself how to be a witness of the Gospel to the world in which she lives. In her work of evangelization even today, therefore, the Church must deal with the socio-cultural context that she faces, characterized by an increasingly plural society and by continuous changes that have affected the institution, gestures and tools of the Christian tradition. It is therefore urgent that the Church make a critical reflection on her identity and her pastoral activity and, attentive to the signs of the times, try to review and renew her form and structures, beginning with the parish, a privileged place for the construction of the christian community and her mission. Since the parish is traditionally considered the «home of all», it is the place where the differences that animate the Church are most evident; therefore, it is called to enhance all the ecclesial experiences that arise from the different charisms. The parish and all the associations and groups present in it represent various forms in which the Church is realized. With this article I want to demonstrate that pluriformity in unity can be the form of the Church today, because the more plural and complex the society is, the more the Churchʼs proposal must be pluriform if she wants Christ to reach everyone. Pluriformity shows different forms of the Christian experience that express the unity of the Church. It is therefore an expression of the Churchʼs liveliness and catholicity. It also recalls that the subject of the Churchʼs mission is never the individual, but a community, a reflection of the communio that the Church lives in every part of the world.

The training of teachers of Roman Catholic religion in Poland is carried out at universities – at the faculties of theology – as part of uniform five-year master’s degree studies or two-year (four-semester) postgraduate studies. The Church ensures the quality of both subject matter (theological) and catechetical preparation, as well as pedagogical preparation of future religion teachers. Current ministerial standards of pedagogical education in Poland are considered important. The analyses undertaken in this paper highlight the fact that the presence of religion lessons in Polish schools requires the reliable preparation of future religion teachers to perform didactic, educational and caring tasks. It also raises the need to pay more attention to the personal and spiritual development of religion teachers. It is, above all, the Roman Catholic Church that is responsible for the quality of theological and catechetical and pedagogical education of those people to whom it gives a mission to teach religion in Polish schools. It is supported in these activities by external entities (e.g. the Ministry of National Education and Science). The above-mentioned activities ensure that the education of teachers of Roman Catholic religion in Poland is integral and, at the same time, adequate for contemporary educational tasks. In the training of Roman Catholic religion teachers, a balance between theological and catechetical and pedagogical formation can be observed. This is visible both in the content and forms of education, where it is preferred to combine theory with practice. This is achieved by internships of theology students carried out in primary schools and various types of secondary schools. Such an integrated approach to the training of religion teachers seems to be the most professional.
