The main door of a church does not only have the sole function as a point of entry or exit but it must perform the iconic function of primary importance in a complex path as a cultural and cultic symbol. Sacred architecture must firstly correspond to liturgical requirements. It does not stand on it’s own but must shape what is sacred in order to be truly functional, therefore becoming a synthesis of form, content and purpose. The door, being part of the architecture, is not simply an opening on the wall, but it is a liturgical and symbolic point which must be strongly characterized.

Dotyczy to posoborowych wymogów liturgicznych, będących źródłem uwarunkowań architektonicznych i sposobu urządzenia liturgicznego wnętrza w drugiej połowie XX w.

Two Latin expressions, Ordo missae and Ordinarium missae, are employed in precise, technical ways in liturgical books and documents of the Roman rite but they are sometimes confused with each other. One has been commonly used when referring to musical compositions of the longer sung texts of the Roman Mass and was used thus in the new chapter of the Institutio Generalis Missali Romani which treats of matters within the competence of Episcopal Conferences. Recent translations of the two Latin expressions in liturgical books for local churches have taken different and even inconsistent routes. Less than ideal translation has affected the rendering of an important new text in the General Instruction regarding the composition of liturgical music and Episcopal Conferences. The author seeks to clarify the usage of the two Latin expressions and how they have been translated differently and inconsistently in major Western languages. He concludes by suggesting there be a consistent approach in the translation of technical terms from Latin into spoken languages.

In the midst of the changes of the society that are reflected in the parish pastoral care, the Congregation for the Clergy issued an instruction The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church in July 2020. This article provides a canonical analysis of its provisions. In addition to the summary of the current legislation, the instruction also provides explanatory comments on some provisions of the canons of the Code of Canon Law or instructions for their implementation. To this end, as an innovation supporting pastoral care, the instruction offers bishops new possibilities for the reform of external structures associating several parishes or district vicariates. This article therefore provides an overview of everything new (beyond the current canon law regulation) that this instruction contains.

The younger generations are classified as a hope for the future in many fields. In the pastoral work of the Church, the formation of young Christians is borne by its relevance. Both the solid statistical data of sociologists of religion and our research have contributed to the discussion of such an accent by the authority of the Church. Shifting the experience of faith from quantity to inner quality and an adequate offer of pastoral activities for young people are becoming new starting points.

The paper presents the currents and thematic framework of liturgical polemics in the Serbian Orthodox Church conducted through ecclesiastical magazines at the beginning of the 20th century. Starting with the research of unfinished debates concerning the easing of fasting and the shortening of the order of the Holy Liturgy, which took place between protopresbyter Nikola Božić and Archimandrite Ilarion Vesić, most of the paper presents and analyzes the complex issues of liturgical debates between Miloš Andjelković and a group of authors consisting of Vasilije Nikolajević, protopresbyter Stanojlo Draguljević, Jordan Miletić and Abbot Teofilo Stefanović. The most important topics were related to the possibility of shortening the order of the Holy Liturgy and potential corrections of numerous ritual elements specific to its celebration. These polemics coincided with personal misunderstandings and intolerance of the participants themselves, while the basic issue concerning the experience of liturgical theory, liturgical practice and the possibility of relevant changes remained unresolved.

After September 8, 2015 the Catholic Church received with great eagerness Pope Francis’s two special communications (called motu proprio) concerning the process of declaration of nullity. The motu proprio issued for the Latin branch of the Church is known as Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus – “The Lord Jesus, Clement Judge”. The Holy Father’s goal is to simplify the process and thus make it faster, more accessible to people, who are seeking a resolution to their situation in the Church. The sensationalism that has surrounded the Mitis Iudex caused some difficulty in understanding some of the reforms. It would be helpful to have new procedural norms to specify how exactly the new process is to work in practice. Until a new procedure arrives it is necessary for the canonists to work together and agree some standard practices.

This article presents an analysis of one of the fundamental aspects of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński’s teaching, which is Mariology understood in praxeological terms. As the source materials’ research confirms, veneration and trust in the Blessed Virgin Mary undoubtedly enacted a significant role in the life and episcopal ministry of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. Moreover, the Marian pastoral program developed by the Primate resisted the communist apparatus of state power pressure. As a result, it became a response to many threats posed by post-war social and political reality, contributing to preserving the Polish people’s identity and cultural independence. The author of this paper intends to present Cardinal Wyszyński’s teaching on the Blessed Virgin Mary, apprehended as the Mother of God-Man and the Mother of the Church. The exploration of the above research will be based on analyzing source texts using the historical and theological method. Consequently, the author of the article will try to capture and outline not only the Mariology of the Primate Wyszyński and the crucial theological substance it contains. However, an essential element of the above research will expose its praxeological dimension manifested in various pastoral initiatives monitored by the then Church in Poland. Thus, the reverence and veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Poland, and Mother of the Church have played a fundamental role. The culminating moment on the Marian way of Cardinal Wyszyński’s episcopal service was the act of total dedication to Mary in the spirit of St. Louis Maria Grignion de Montfort. The pastoral programs that emerged as a consequence of this Vows enacted a pivotal role in maintaining the faith and Christian tradition by the Nation, strengthening the post-war Church in Poland, as well as impacting the entire universal Church.

The aim of this analytical study carried out on the basis of existing sources was to determine the correlation between the activity of Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk involving the reception of moral values and norms in social life and development of social capital in the Diocese of Przemyśl. Projects initiated by Abp. Tokarczuk, in which he put special emphasis on the observance of moral law, had a positive effect on social ties, the number of connections, and the increase of social trust. Belief in the predictable behaviour of cooperating partners, as well as adherence to moral values and norms shared by many individuals promoted the development of associational activity and made teamwork more dynamic. The powers of individuals joined in cooperation allowed for the more efficient execution of tasks aimed at the common good of local communities. Cooperation brought benefits to both religious and secular communities. The movement aimed at the construction of sacral architecture developed dynamically, and associational activity increased, as did the level of religiosity. The activity of anti-communist independence organizations, demanding the democratization of social life, was also stimulated. Universal moral values and norms emphasized and promoted by Tokarczuk created axiological foundations for the establishment of a civil society.

The text, referring to theological sciences and studies on communicology, proves the thesis that a listener of the homily should be treated not as a passive recipient of the Word of God preached during the liturgy, but as an entity that has such a great impact on the content and manner of preaching the Gospel, that he can be described as a coauthor of the sermon. The author divides work on the homily into three stages: preparation of the text, preaching the Word of God in the liturgical context, and the time after the liturgy, confirming that at each of these stages it is necessary for the preacher to cooperate with the persons to whom he directs his preaching. Sometimes the presence of listeners is virtual, some other time – real. However, this presence is always so important that disregarding it will have a negative impact on the quality of preaching the Word of God.
