Young family carers are people who in their everyday lives provide care to members of their family. This means they do things, often on a regular basis, which are usually associated with adults. In Slovenia, young carers are an invisible population and a neglected research topic. The data from Youth in Ljubljana 2017 give us the first insights into the characteristics of young carers in Slovenia. The dependent variable in our regression analysis is the subjective meanings young people attribute to caring activities within the family. Family caring activities are more important to young women, households with siblings, and religious children. Greater importance is asso- ciated with both increasing age and permanent residence in Ljubljana. Moreover, the higher importance of family caring activities is associated with lower school success.

The number of elderly people represents one fifth of the population and the percentage will grow rapidly the next few decades. With the attitude to them that we have today, the information is frightening. As the burden for society, what I am sure they represent to most of the people, it will be hard to live for them. But I am sure that we will, if we begin to treat them differently than today and help them develop the qualities that come with age, be surprised by the wisdom that we no longer expect from them for a long time now. The last three years I am intensively working with the elderly, adding the elements of art therapy in classical painting courses. All this time I am observing how the elderly, who preferably want to leave the class with nice looking craft, respond to playing with color, unusual exercises and deepening to the process and their experience with it and at the end they leave satisfied without having produced a masterpiece. With the introduction of the intuitive way of working in art therapy, the group members connected and relaxed. There is more laughter and ideas that surprise even themselves. Therefore, I started researching the topic and to verify whether a separate sessions of art therapy may contribute to the personal development of elderly and thus to the development of elements that makes elderly people wise.

Sociological investigations and a number of court decisions support the idea that redundancy dismissals are legal tools that can be misused easily for wrongful discharged based on an illegal age discrimination reason. This article analyses trial and appeal courts´ case law in order to clarify, what makes this particular reason for discharge so attractive for age discrimination perpetrators. Although Czech law does not recognize At-will Doctrine, and the Eu-Law forces an employer to proceed in relation to any elderly employee equally, redundancy has been proved to be the right instrument for employers that enables them to decide, who they do not work with, who they fire.

Current demographic trends indicate that we will live in an increasingly aging society, with all its conditions including changes taking place in daily life. Contemporary civilization promotes the cult of youth, vitality and physical strength. Numerous manifestations of ageism are an expression of fear, fears of the consequences of the natural process of aging and old age. Elder people experience not only health problems, but more and more often loneliness, marginalization, violence, neglect and abuse, both from the closest family and aid institutions. The ongoing demographic changes require special attention to the problem of violence against elder people. The prevention of violence against elder people is particularly important in the event of increasing population aging. The purpose of the article is to present forms of violence towards seniors, a determination of the scale of this phenomenon, motives and methods of counteracting this negative behaviour in the light of the literature on the subject. It is necessary to undertake a wide range of activities to change the image of elder people and the phenomenon of old age and also draw attention to the problem of violence against elder people in the public forum.

Current century is often presented as the age of aging. Disproportionate increase in the group of old people, to almost a quarter of the population, carries with it not only the pride of the achievements of medicine prolonging life, but also the negative social trends. Progressing processes, which have already been identified as „intergenerational desolidarisation”, are also reflected in very negative phenomena, among which the discrimination against elderly people becomes more important. The negative attitudes based on stereotypes and prejudices towards the oldest part of society arouse anxiety and demand the search for ways out. In this study, based on the analysis of Polish-language professional literature, attempts were made to sort out the reasons and contexts of such negative references to seniors, highlighting the most important discriminatory areas, and finally trying to find the possible ways out from the situation of social inequity experienced by elderly people.

Since the Bible is not a systematical work, it is not easy to answer the question of how ageing is viewed by biblical texts unambiguously. One of the reasons is the perception of ageing in biblical times. Generally old people were appreciated for their life experience and wisdom; they should be respected accordingly. Old age was also seen as a reward for a godly life. This also explains why particularly important figures in the history of salvation and models of faith were “awarded” with old age.

The ageing population of developed countries poses a challenge to State policy. At the same time, decreasing number of births increased the risk of negative natural growth. There is a shortage of manpower in the labour market. These and other indicators allow us to state that society will need its seniors in the public space. An extended life expectancy changes the perception of elderly people as an irreplaceable reservoir of resources of experienced professionals. This imposes a public obligation to conduct promotional activities in the direction of family policy, including elderly people.

This article is an analysis of accessibility and quality of space in three Cracow’s housing estates: Azory, Dębniki, and Nowy Bieżanów in terms of usability by the elderly. Each of the studied areas has a different functional and spatial structure, and a local architectural environment. The purpose of the analysis is to draw attention to the needs of older residents, whose participation in the Polish society will increase thanks to changing demographics. The result of the research is a determination of the impact of urban and spatial layout on pedestrian traffic and activities of the elderly. The presented observations highlight how the physical proximity between the place of residence and recreational areas or service buildings determines the behaviour of senior residents.

The main aim of the article was to present three aspects of community care for the elderly in England: formal care which is provided by government, non‑formal which is private care as well as non‑governmental organisations (NGOs), informal care mostly provided by family members. Presentation of these three forms of support for the elderly was to highlight the importance of multidisciplinary co‑operation as the core value in creating an effective care package of an elderly person. Interdisciplinary approach in community care provision gives an elderly person opportunities to remain in his/her own home environment. The new way in functioning of social care tends to be called integrated care model where co‑operation and coordination of various tasks is essential. This article emphasises the importance of family member who provides care on a daily basis.

The following text is an attempt to turn the attention of profession and science to those who impelled by infirmity and broken will for life, choose the only option they are left – voluntary but cruel desertion from life. It's about depressed, lonely, disappointed, desperate, helpless and often sick old people, who are frightened by present and disquieted by future, so when they make their life balans the only solution they find is to terminate their existence. Their motives and reasons are numerous, and for some of them we can only surmise, but the result indicates that fear from life overcomes fear from death. Who, When, How, Where and always the most important and the most difficult – Why a man quit his life, are the questions that occupy not only science (philosophy, psychiatry, psychology, sociology, law, andragogy, antropology, suicidology...) but also religion, literature and art. Regardless of variety of literature and answers on suicide the question and dilemma that occupy the profession and science still remain: Why a man judge on himself? For those unsatisfied by explanations the weak comfort is that the secret (cause)goes to grave. This is the reason for greater methodological grounding of researches of this complex phenomenon.

Tko su naši ostarjeli? Zbog položaja u kojem su zatečeni, ni sami ne znaju. Nerijetko postavljaju čuvenu tvrdnju Simon de Bovoar: «Jesu li ostarijeli ljudi?«. Sliku generacijskog profila sada ostarjelih teško je izraziti. Ona je veoma složena. Nerijetko dramatična. Jer kroz njezin se životni profil reflektira historijska slika naše zajednice na razmeđu Istoka i Zapada. Oni su konačni izraz neuspjeha naše socijalne politike.

The aim of this study was to analyse the association of poor self-perceived health with demographic, socioeconomic and lifestyle factors using data from the European Health Interview Survey. When applying the multiple logistic regression model, two demographic (male sex, older age), all four socioeconomic (low education level, unemployed and retired, living in households with lowest income, poor social support) and only one lifestyle factor (no alcohol consumption) were revealed as associated with poor self-perceived health. The association of socioeconomic factors with self-perceived health among the adult population in Croatia is direct and not mediated exclusively through lifestyle factors.

The aim of the research was to detect elements of intangible cultural heritage which still exist in these specific living circumstances, using the narratives on life values given by the population of a retirement home in Knjaževac. Aside from this, the task was to shed light on the important changes in the practice of certain elements of intangible cultural heritage which occur due to the fact that life in the retirement home is significantly different than life outside. These changes, as it will be shown, led to the reduction of the form and content of certain practices, or to their complete loss. However, as the most prominent example of the sustainability of intangible cultural heritage, the krsna slava is singled out. It is also important to emphasize that certain aspects of this heritage have therapeutic benefits in the given circumstances – they serve to maintain and improve the quality of life of the home’s residents.

The problem of the ageing population has become an important political topic as well as an increasingly greater challenge for health, social and housing care services in the developed countries. The ageing population is, however, creating strongly growing financial needs to provide suitable healthcare, social care and housing for the elderly. Innovative forms of living and care for the elderly are, therefore, the reaction of the western countries to the increasing number of the older people in the society. One of such innovative systems, which is based on the information and communication technologies, is called remote home care or "telecare". It represents an applied form of an intelligent environment, by which users’ home environments are arranged following the smart house concept, connected to a remote monitoring network, and through this to providers of care and other services. Although the governments try to implement such systems to reduce the costs, the findings of various authors suggest that elderly people have mostly negative attitudes towards such innovative form of living and care. But the research that was conducted in Slovenia has, surprisingly, shown the opposite. The article presents and discusses the results of this research.
