Międzygeneracyjny kontekst wychowania seksualnego w rodzinie z perspektywy młodego pokolenia, czyli kłopotliwe rozmowy rodziców i dzieci na temat intymności

Author(s): Mariola Bieńko / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2017

This paper explores the presence of norms of solidarity in widespread concepts of the love binding siblings, and in the experience of having siblings. The attributes of love between siblings, the advantages and disadvantages of having siblings, and degrees of confidence in nearest kin were analyzed on the basis of research using the auditory survey technique (with the majority of the questions being open) conducted in the years 2015-2016 on 226 students in their first year of bachelor’s degree studies at the Department of Social Sciences of the UAM. The quantitative and qualitative data makes it possible to conclude that in this time of a denormalization and desolidarization of family ties the relationship between siblings in early adulthood has resisted these processes. The essence of the relationship is altruism, in the sense of support, trust, dedication, and selflessness. An attempt is also made in the article to point to the source for viewing siblings in these categories.

Uspjeh kroz neuspjeh: Lukin paradoksalni pogled na kršćansko poslanje Židovima

Author(s): Alexandru Neagoe / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2018

The present article sets out to analyze Luke’s view of the Christian mission to the Jews. Specific attention is paid to the question of whether in any sense this mission may be considered as being successful or it may be regarded as having a future. A key distinction is introduced between Luke’s representation of the Christian mission to the Jews and his interpretation if it. Thus, the first section looks primarily at how Luke represents the Jewish response to the mission, while the second section explores the way in which he interprets this response. The conclusion of the study is that Luke’s concern is neither to show that the mission to the Jews has failed because of a negative response, nor that it has succeeded because of a positive response, but rather that it has achieved its goal and it has a future despite a predominantly negative response.

Bezdzietność z wyboru i jej związki z wybranymi zachowaniami konsumpcyjnego stylu życia mieszkańców wsi i miast

Author(s): Emilia Komorowska,Ewelina Kukawska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2015

The analysis of the CBOS (Public Opinion Research Centre) carried out in 2013 shows that family happiness ranks first among the values which the Poles consider as one guiding their lives. These declarations, however, do not translate into family life. The aim of this study was to show the relationships between the childlessness by choice and consumer lifestyle behaviors among residents of villages and cities. The study was conducted among 120 students of Civil Engineering, Agriculture, Sociology and Public Health, using the method of diagnostic survey in which the author of the study applied a questionnaire. The results obtained by the authors on the currently most important values in the respondents’ lives are similar to the results of surveys of public opinion. The vast majority of the respondents see themselves in the role of a parent at the age of 26-30 years, but a significant proportion of students consider having a child in their life at the moment as a threat to fertility. The opinion of students coincides with the currently most common cause of childlessness by choice, or the so called delayed parenting.

Parents’ Legal Obligations towards Their Children before Leaving to Work Abroad

Author(s): Carmen-Gabriela Lăzăreanu / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2018

This article tries to underline the importance of parents’ awareness regarding their role within child protection during the time when they are physically absent from their children’s lives. This new type of “cross-border” families, as Segalen called them, determines problems that can be avoided or diminished if legal indications are obeyed. Checking the legal guardians and the parents in charge of a child is the improvement of the law adopted in view of a better monitoring of the child while the parents are working abroad, a period which should be no longer than a year.

Parental Stress and Parent-Child Relationships in Recently Divorced, Custodial Mothers

Author(s): Kelly Murphy L.,Magy Martin,Don Martin / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2018

Divorce often creates significant stress that can have an impact on parent-child relationship satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive relationship between parental stress as measured by the Parenting Stress Index, 4 th Edition, Short Form (PSI-4-SF) and the parentchild relationship satisfaction as measured by the Parent-Child Relationship Inventory (PCRI) following a separation or divorce. A sample of 17 recently separated or divorced, custodial mothers who had at least one child between the ages 5-13 years were recruited through local schools. Participants completed the PSI-4-SF, the PCRI, and a demographics questionnaire online. A correlation and regression analysis were conducted to analyze the relationship between parental stress and the level of parent-child relationship satisfaction, which was found to possess a significant negative relationship. The stress of the mother was found to affect the parent-child relationship. Neither child gender or child age influenced the relationship between parental stress and parent-child relationship satisfaction. However, mother’s with sons reported higher parental satisfaction than mothers with daughters.

„ДЕТСКИ БРАКОВИ ВО РЕГИОНОТ НА ЗАПАДЕН БАЛКАН: КАДЕ Е НАЈДОБРИОТ ИНТЕРЕС НА ДЕТЕТО?“

The culturally packed practice of child marriage exists in the Western Balkan region and competes for attention with other complex problems to be duly addressed in national agendas. Even though it is under research and sponsored by structural marginalization of some state-led interventions, this phenomenon has dire life-long consequences on children, in general, and on girls, in particular. Treated as commodities their best interest is disregarded, while gender inequality, discrimination, illiteracy and vulnerability are widened. Lack of adequate data about the prevalence of this phenomenon is backed up with the lack of political will to prioritize this issue at the national level and consistently address it through broadbased actors involvement. The best interest of the child implies a threefold, flexible, complex and adaptable concept which puts children first in any decision that affects their life. This paper draws on the Social Ecological Model and the principle of the best interest of the child to highlight the main causes of child marriage in the Western Balkan region. It employs secondary data to examine how it violates the principle of the best interest of the child. Some research gaps have been highlighted mainly related to the lack of consolidated data about the phenomenon of child marriage. Conclusions are drawn and recommendations are provided in order to stop this traditional practice that disregards the best interest of girls.

Zjawisko nierówności społecznych w obszarze praw reprodukcyjnych w Polsce – wybrane aspekty

Author(s): Krystyna Dzwonkowska-Godula / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2019

The aim of the article is to analyze the phenomenon of social inequality in the realization of reproductive rights in Poland in a chosen dimension: the possibilities of women controlling their own fertility by women. It is based on an analysis of secondary data (legal acts, results of social research, reports, research reports, media coverage etc.). The research question was whether and how such variables as material status, age and place of residence differentiate women’s access to modern contraception. The starting point was the assumption of intersectionality – the intersection of individuals’ different social features that determine their life chances. The influence of selected variables on women’s procreative autonomy and the restrictive nature of reproductive politics in Poland was discussed.

Mniejszość w mniejszości. Macierzyństwo kobiet z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną

Author(s): Agnieszka Wołowicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 26 (2-2)/2018

The goal of this article is to broaden social reflection regarding intellectually disabled women’s access to reproductive rights and the right to a family life. Women with intellectual disability are discriminated in their access to reproductive rights and the right to a family life both at the level of social practice and in legislation. This is manifested, among other things, in the challenging of their right to take procreational decisions, in the constructing of a social image of women with intellectual disability as unequivocally incompetent in raising children, in intellectual disability being treated as an unqualified risk to children, and in the curtailing of these women’s say in regard to the raising of their children. This is having numerous consequences, such as the abandoning of sex education, greater supervision by the institution of social support, as well as abuse of the procedure for depriving these women of their parental rights.

Dylematy rodziców i opiekunów niepełnosprawnych dzieci. Charakterystyka reprezentowanych strategii „(nie)radzenia sobie” z „nieuchronną i „niepewną” przyszłością

Author(s): Jakub Niedbalski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 26 (2-2)/2018

The purpose of this article is to reconstruct one of the dimensions of the life of families of persons with intellectual disability, concerning the fortunes of these families’ wards following the death of the latter’s parents (or the situation in which parents, due to their age, will be unable to ensure suitable care for their disabled offspring). The research material used in this report comprises the personal experiences of parents (guardians) of disabled persons. Unstructured, semi-directive interviews were conducted with persons representing this category of respondents. Analysis of the research material is based on the rules of grounded theory methodology. The research conducted revealed that for the parents and guardians of disabled persons, a particularly important yet at the same time extremely problematic issue is the future of their wards, a future which they often perceive in different ways. As such, the research served as a basis for identifying strategies of “(not) coping with the future” of disabled children, as applied by their parents and guardians.

Razvoj skala za ispitivanje stavova prema izdvajanju djece iz obitelji i udomiteljstvu

Author(s): Željka Kamenov,Branka Sladović Franz,Marina Ajduković / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2006

The aim of this paper is to describe the development of the Attitude scale toward exclusion of children from the families (20 items) and Attitude scale toward foster care placement (22 items) developed by Ž. Kamenov, B. Sladović Franz and M. Ajduković (2005.) The scales have high coefficient of internal consistency, and the factor analyses identified factors that explain satisfactory percentage of variance. In the study conducted in order to construct the scales participated 338 subjects - 164 professionals from the social welfare field and 174 participants from the general population. The age of participants ranged from 18 to 63 years, with the average of 34.8 years (SD=12.22). The majority of participants were female (79.3%).The results showed that the participants had moderately positive attitudes toward both attitude objects, but their attitude toward exclusion of children from the families was more positive than toward foster care placement. Professionals' attitudes significantly differed in comparison to the participants from the general population. The social welfare professionals had more negative attitudes toward foster care placement, and more positive toward exclusion of children from the biological families. The results were interpreted within the framework of the theory of cognitive dissonance.

Način života u obitelji iz perspektive djece i mladih

Author(s): Ivana Jeđud Borić,Dubravka Marušić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2005

40 children and youth in the age between 12 to 20 years old, all in the process of need assessment and planning of intervention (institutional diagnosis and living community) were interviewed as a part of the scientific project “Social-pedagogical diagnosis”. The goal was: through active participation and self-report of young people, to get insight into the topics which young people define as currently important for their lives. Semi-structured interview was conducted with children/ youth, based on social-pedagogic areas (self, family, school, peers and leisure time, behavior disorders, intervention, future). In this paper authors discuss everyday life in family (usual day in family, common activities of family members, rules in the family) through perspective and interpretation of children and youth. Family is a primary environment for socialization and upbringing of children, and for that reason is one of the important areas of social-pedagogic work. Everyday life in family, its’ structure and regulations, can influence child’s behavior and the development of unacceptable behavior. The authors are interested in the way children and youth perceive everyday life in family, their insights into and understanding of different aspects of family life. Results have shown that children and young people, when talking about everyday life in family, in most cases talk about everyday routine activities (duties in household, help in some specific activities). Common activities of family members, such as games, travel and festivities were mentioned in less extant. One can also see lack of organization and non-structured way of spending the usual day. Structure of the day is left to children/ youth themselves or it comes from external factors (school). On the other hand, there is a lack of structure that comes from the family itself. Qualitative methodology was used for data analysis, and all data is saved and processed using NVivo programme for qualitative analysis of text.

Author(s): Stefan Ninković,Stanislava Marić Jurišin,Borka Malčić / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

The aim of study was to investigate the effects of parents' perceptions of neighborhood safety on outdoor physical activities of preschool children. This was investigated based on a moderating role of a child's gender and parents' age. The results showed that the association of parents’ perceptions of neighborhood safety on outdoor physical activities of children depended of the child’s sex and the parents’ age. Female children whose parents were below the average age the perceived neighborhood safety hindered frequent outdoor playing. The paper discusses practical implications of the obtained results and recommendations for future research.
