The article is devoted to the fate of the collections which once belonged to the Lviv-based Library of the Wiktor Baworowski Foundation. It presents the activities of Wiktor Baworowski, the posthumous history of the collections that he gathered, and the question of the collections of the Bavorovianum, which remained in Lviv and which due to the post-war change of borders were incorporated into The Lviv National Vasyl Stefanyk Scientific Library of Ukraine. The article is focused above all on the collaboration of the libraries of Wrocław and Lviv, which involved the project of the digitalisation of Polish collections which remained in Lviv. A 19th-century copiarium which heretofore was not processed, containing inter alia the poems of Anna z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowa, Franciszka Urszula Radziwiłłowa and an anonymous diarium describing the path to Dresden served as an example of a work derived from the Baworowski Library which was digitised and made accessible in the internet database. The description of its content facilitated the underscoring of the significance of the processes of digitalisation which enable researchers to study valuable manuscripts access to which was difficult earlier.

The term cultural heritage refers to the body of the heritage of societies produced in the process of historical development, passed from one generation to another. Its scope includes both material and non-material elements. Cuisine constitutes an important component of the second group. It is an indicator of the richness and variety of culinary heritage. Therefore it is no wonder that the state and self‑government authorities along with regional tourism organisations create initiatives whose purpose is to create an inventory of the local culinary resources and their use to promote local production in the food market, also as a value which generates the movement of tourists. Therefore it is worthwhile to observe the extent to which tourism based on the resources of culinary heritage develops. The aim of the present work is to demonstrate the model of using culinary heritage in tourism, prepared on the basis of research in subject literature and the analysis of the use of selected traditional products in Upper Silesia within the framework of the tourism-related offer of the region.

The dynamics of socio-economic changes has brought a number of changes and significantly influenced space in recent times. Cities are growing and occupying new areas. Spontaneous and unplanned urbanization is often the sign of our times. Chaotic appropriation of space has become a problem both in Poland and in the world. Therefore, in space management it is important to pay attention to areas that can be reused in the process of revitalization. The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of revitalization in the context of the functional changes that took place in cities in the past centuries, with a particular emphasis on postindustrial areas in Poland. Additionally, the question of whether revitalization is an opportunity to preserve and protect cultural heritage is discussed.

This article intends to give an insight into what place the traditional craft skills occupy in the contemporary Latvian rural environment, using as a point of observation the activities of the ‘Meet your Master!’ event, organised by the Latvian National Centre for Culture. The interest of both the society and the individuals in focusing on the traditional cultural heritage is encouraged by the desire for expressing their cultural identity in today’s cosmopolitan world. The same motivation prompts the use of traditional knowledge in rural tourism, in the activities of individual manufacturers etc. Traditional skills are the basis for mutual interaction among the community members and a meaningful way of spending leisure time, which as a whole lead to improving the quality of life.

Fringe belts, extensive areas of low density and wide open spaces designated for institutional use, are a morphological element in the urban landscape. Rabat, capital of Morocco, conceived during the French protectorate, received in 2012, a UNESCO World Heritage title for representing a modern urban planning model that integrates an open space system with its historical nucleus. Nonetheless, criterion (v) – to be an outstanding example of a traditional human settlement, which is representative of a culture (or cultures), or human interaction with the environment – was deemed grounds for rejecting Rabat’s nomination because the candidate presented seemed to be fragmented and showed a lack of a relationship between property and environment, according to the ICOMOS report. This study considers the Kasbah of Oudayas to be a unique and outstanding example of a traditional human settlement, in contrast to those cases presented in 2012. The aim of this study is to investigate the evolution of urban Rabat according to the morphological periods of development, in order to, ascertain whether or not the fringe belts can reveal the historic areas in which the city has evolved over time. It also seeks to understand how fringe belts may contribute to confirming the Kasbah of Oudayas as the first Islamic urban nucleus in the capital. As such, it is hoped that the paper may: assist practitioners and academics in the fields of urban morphology and heritage; provide initial insights into how to investigate outstanding traditional human settlements; reveal the architectural, historical and cultural value of such sites; demonstrate how the application and dissemination of a methodology may open new perspectives for studies on the subject.

This paper discusses industrial heritage, i.e. the society‘s relationship with the remnants of defunct industrial infrastructure. We demonstrate the issues involved on the example of Brno, one of the key economic centers of the Czech lands. Brno owes this status to its early industrialization, especially the textile industry which dominated its economic landscape from the late 1700s. Early 1990s saw the total collapse of the industry which resulted, inter alia, in the city‘s landscape being dotted by abandoned, defunct and derelict industrial buildings and building complexes. Those are now viewed as impediments to city‘s development and the city is looking for new ways to utilize them. These effort have been somewhat successful, for example in revitalizing a number of brownfields, but a large-scale solutions is still a desideratum. As a result, a number of building with great historical and cultural value have been torn down, including the industrial site of Vlněna, one of the icons of the textile industry in Brno, which was demolished in 2016. A unique opportunity to preserve, transform and revitalize this unique complex of buildings with immense historical value was wasted and thus a significant part of the industrial identity of Brno was irrevocably lost.
