Agresja i przemoc szkolna doświadczana przez uczniów i uczennice z lekką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w trzech formach kształcenia. Studium różnicy płci

Agresja i przemoc szkolna doświadczana przez uczniów i uczennice z lekką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w trzech formach kształcenia. Studium różnicy płci

Author(s): Marzena Buchnat / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2021

Aggression and school violence have been a permanent feature of every school. Experiencing this phenomenon negatively affects the development of every person. How often it is experienced depends on many factors, including gender and disability. Among children most exposed to peer victimization, there are students with mild intellectual disabilities who, due to their developmental deficits, are more likely to become victims. The conducted research is an attempt to answer the question whether there are differences in the level of experiencing school aggression and violence between girls and boys with mild intellectual disability attending the fourth and fifth grades of special schools, mainstream schools and integrated classes. The obtained research results lead to a discussion on the extent to which the “gender effect” and “disability effect” influence the experience of aggression and school violence in students with mild intellectual disability learning in various forms of educational organization. The presented results will be the basis for a discussion on overt and covert mechanisms of reproducing the gender difference in educational institutions.

Virginia Satir (1916-1988) was one of the pioneers in developing her own approach to working with families and emphasizing the importance of communication patterns in family therapy. According to her, problematic people form a personality type by moving away from their real identity in the family and taking on different communication patterns such as “accusing”, “calming”, “distracting attention” and “calculating”. Satir firstly created the “Family Sculpture and updated the problem of the family and then focused on the change. She brought the man and woman (parents) to face the landscape and updated the events. Thus, the events in the family were identified, photographs were taken, put in front of individuals, social problems (illnesses) were identified and the family faced with its problems. Then, she focused on change and helped to maintain the family balance. She conceptualized the “Family Map”, “Family Chronology” and “Family Sculpture” for the diagnosis of the problem. She conceptualized what is happening as “Updating”. Then she used the concepts of “Communication Games”, “Talk and Look” and “Touch” for change.

Twenty individuals with albinism, 20 individuals with vitiligo, 20 healthy controls included to the study. Participants were administered Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Coopersmith’s Self- Esteem Inventory (CSEI), World Health Organization Questionnaire on Quality of Life: Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF). BDI, BAI scores of individuals with albinism were significantly higher. The physical health, psychological, social relationship domain scores of the individuals with albinism were significantly lower than in healthy controls. Individuals with albinism had lower scores on Environment domain scores were lower than both those with vitiligo and healthy controls. The physical health, psychological, social relationship domain scores were negatively correlated with BDI; the physical health and environment domain scores were negatively correlated with BAI scores in albinism group. The CSEI scores of individuals with albinism were significantly lower than in healthy controls. According to our findings, the higher levels of depression and anxiety, lower levels of self-esteem, and quality of life indicate psychosocial distress among the individuals with albinism. Determination of the psychosocial distress experienced by individuals with albinism will contribute in better understanding of the experience of individuals with albinism and public awareness on albinism.

Aleksitimija merena TAS-20 upitnikom: provera faktorske strukture upitnika i njenog odnosa sa zadovoljstvom životom i Velikih pet dimenzija ličnosti

Author(s): Nikola Rokvić,Tamara Jovanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2018

Alexithymia is the inability of an individual to recognize their own or someone else’s feelings and to communicate their own emotional states. On the cognitive level, we can observe a decreased ability for imagination and a practical style of thinking, while on the affective level, we can notice a diminished ability of getting in touch with emotions. The most commonly used instrument for measuring alexithymia is the TAS-20 scale that consists of three subscales: Factor 1– the identification of feelings, Factor 2– difficulties describing feelings, Factor 3– externally oriented thinking. The aim of this paper is to determine the factor structure of the TAS-20 questionnaire and its relations to personality traits and life satisfaction. The sample consisted of 601“nonclinical” and 65 “clinical” participants. The “clinical” participants have reported in the survey that they had a diagnosed psychiatric disorder. 75% of the “nonclinical” and 76.9% of the “clinical” sample participants were female. The average age of the “nonclinical” sample was 29.47 (SD=7.12), and the average age of the “clinical” sample was 31.18 (SD=8.44). Confirmatory factor analysis has shown an adequate model fit, but only after the removal of item 20 from the model. The summary score and factor scores showed an expected relationship with the Big Five in the “nonclinical” sample, except a somewhat weaker correlation with the Openness trait. The summary score and factor scores also had expected relations with life satisfaction, while no significant correlation was detected in the “clinical” sample. The regression model has shown that personality traits explain 37.6% of the summary score variance. The expected gender differences were not detected.

An Analysis of the Barriers to Inclusion of Children with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (besd) in the Contexts of Greece and England

Author(s): Katerina Lykourgioti / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

Children with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD) are at high risk of experiencing exclusion in both England and Greece. However, this particular category of Special Educational Needs (SEN) has so far received relatively little academic or political attention in comparison to other SEN. This paper attempts to point out the barriers that may prevent the inclusion of children with BESD both in terms of the theoretical conceptualisation of the category itself and in terms of the policies and practices that England and Greece may implement. In order to achieve a further yet coherent picture of the current situation, this paper has identified three different types of factors that may negatively influence inclusion. Therefore, by discussing the possible ideological, structural, and practical challenges, the paper aims to highlight the crucial need for further theoretical insight that would be able to inform and promote the establishment of a more cohesive and efficient legislative framework for pupils with BESD in both countries.

An Analysis of the Relationship between Teaching Concerns and Personality Traits of In-Service EFL Teachers

An Analysis of the Relationship between Teaching Concerns and Personality Traits of In-Service EFL Teachers

Author(s): Didem Atan,Demet Yaylı / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

This study aims at exploring the teaching concerns of a group of EFL teachers working in various school levels in terms of different variables (gender, age, professional experience, graduated program and school level), the relationship between their concerns and personality traits, and their views on their own teaching concerns. The research was designed in a convergent parallel design. A total of 200 EFL teachers working in primary, secondary and university levels participated in the study, and interviews were conducted with 18 teachers volunteering among these teachers. The results indicated that gender and the graduated program type appeared not to create a significant difference. However, it was found that as the professional experience increased, the teaching concerns decreased and primary school EFL teachers seemed to have higher concerns than the other groups of teachers. Correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between their teaching concerns and personality traits. Qualitative results of the study suggested relatively higher levels of teaching concerns than the levels obtained with the questionnaire.

An empirical investigation of the effects of moderating and mediating variables in business research: Insights from an auditing report

An empirical investigation of the effects of moderating and mediating variables in business research: Insights from an auditing report

Author(s): Mohammad Namazi,Navid Reza Namazi / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2017

This study examines the empirical impacts of moderating (MO) and mediating (ME) variables in business research, within the context of auditing reports. size, complexity of the operation, and risk of the firm were selected as the independent variable, moderating variable, and mediating variable, respectively. The selection was attempted over 15 years of research (1455 year-firm data) for the firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). The following techniques were employed for testing the hypothesis: Pearson correlation, Levin, Lin, and Chu test, Hausman unit root, and multiple regression. The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between the size of the firm and the type of the auditing report. Moreover, a significant relationship between the size of the company and the type of auditing report is shown in the inventory value of the moderating variables. Furthermore, the same has been displayed in return on the assets and institutional ownership of the mediating variables. However, inventory and institutional ownership demonstrate a significant statistical relationship when moderating and mediating variables are considered simultaneously. The implication of this study is to demonstrate the moderating and mediating variables as significant impediments in the type of auditing report. This would change the design, theory, and implications of this research.

Author(s): Zaheer Hussain,Mark D. Griffiths,David Sheffield / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2017

Over the last decade, worldwide smartphone usage has greatly increased. Alongside this growth, research on the influence of smartphones on human behavior has also increased. However, a growing number of studies have shown that excessive use of smartphones can lead to detrimental consequences in a minority of individuals. This study examines the psychological aspects of smartphone use particularly in relation to problematic use, narcissism, anxiety, and personality factors. Methods: A sample of 640 smartphone users ranging from 13 to 69 years of age (mean = 24.89 years, SD = 8.54) provided complete responses to an online survey including modified DSM-5 criteria of Internet Gaming Disorder to assess problematic smartphone use, the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Narcissistic Personality Inventory, and the Ten-Item Personality Inventory. Results: The results demonstrated significant relationships between problematic smartphone use and anxiety, conscientiousness, openness, emotional stability, the amount of time spent on smartphones, and age. The results also demonstrated that conscientiousness, emotional stability, and age were independent predictors of problematic smartphone use. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that problematic smartphone use is associated with various personality factors and contributes to further understanding the psychology of smartphone behavior and associations with excessive use of smartphones.

An investigation of the emotions elicited by hospital clowns in comparison to circus clowns and nursing staff

An investigation of the emotions elicited by hospital clowns in comparison to circus clowns and nursing staff

Author(s): Sarah Auerbach,Jennifer Hofmann,Tracey Platt,Willibald Ruch / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2013

The present research aims at identifying emotional states induced in observers of hospital clown interventions utilizing a list of clown-specific ratings, the 29 Clown Emotion List (CLEM-29, Auerbach et al. 2012a). Study 1 investigated whether hospital clowns elicit emotional states other than those already covered by scales representing existing models of emotional states. One hundred and nineteen adults watched videos of hospital clowns and circus clowns. After each video, they completed a general mood scale, a humour-related mood scale, the CLEM-29, and indicated the global intensity of positive and negative feelings towards each video. Results showed that emotional states elicited by hospital clowns go beyond states represented in general mood scales. Some elements of the CLEM-29 relating to humour and amusement overlapped with existing models of mood, but many other emotional qualities like “feeling connected to the clown” or feeling “appreciated” were not well represented. Some of the clown-specific ratings best predicted the positive experiences towards the videos. In Study 2, 183 adults watched 15 videos of hospital clown interventions, circus clown performances and nurse-patient interactions, and filled in the CLEM-29. Four factors emerged from a factor analysis of the ratings: amusement, transcendence, arousal, and uneasiness. Both circus and hospital clowns elicited amusement, but only the hospital clowns additionally elicited feelings of transcendence (i.e., feeling privileged and appreciated). Nurses also elicited transcendent experiences without being amusing. This research shows that prior studies underestimated emotional states elicited by hospital clowns, which go beyond a typical humour response.

An overview of research on romantic relationships. The case of negative emotions

An overview of research on romantic relationships. The case of negative emotions

Author(s): Andreea Ursu,Maria Nicoleta Turliuc / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2018

The universal human tendency to form close relationships, the basic needs satisfied by social relationships and the centrality of them to human existence were ones of the most important reasons why people started to research the concept of close relationships and its impact on the daily life. In the last 4 decades, the studies of the interpersonal relationships have been one of the favorite areas in the social psychology. The several strong theories and highly generative research paradigms on interpersonal relationships are the result of researchers’ interest in this concept. A central role was played by the romantic relationships concept. At the beginning of the 1980s, the publication of studies on relationship types began, and later on, articles on theories about factors of formation, development, maintenance and dissolution of one romantic relationship were published. Across time, they discover that social relationships represent the context in which people experience their most intense emotions, both positive and negative. Especially, the experience and expression of emotions are influencing the formation, maintenance and dissolution of close relationships. Thus, based on these assumptions, this paper is an overview of synthesizing (a) how the concept of romantic relationships is view by different theories; (b) what are the benefits of them; and (c) which type of negative emotions are experienced within a romantic relationship.

Różnorodność interpretacji pozycji testowych a wiarygodność narzędzia

Author(s): Katarzyna Liber-Kwiecińska,Agnieszka Skorupa / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2020

Psychological inventories are tools used to measure intensity of a given trait in an examined person. Many inventories are based on written questions to which people respond. Although psychological inventories are standardized and their parametrization is a matter of great importance, the linguistic sphere of tests seems to be considered as secondary. The way in which the inventory questions are structured, depending on whether they are based on hyponyms or hyperonyms, has a significant impact on the response given by people diagnosed. Moreover, it can reduce theoretical validity of the tool. The authors of the article conducted a study in which 637 people completed the FCZ-KT inventory (Strelau, Zawadzki 1995). Next, the respondents described situations in which they recalled answering 20 out of 120 questions from the inventory (questions were selected earlier during the pilot study). Open answers given by the respondents were categorized by competent judges. This article presents the spectrum of various associations that the same item evokes in different respondents. The linguistic aspect of psychological tests and the issue of credibility of tools related to it is the main subject of the article.

ANHEDONİYİ ANLAMAK: TRANSDİYAGNOSTİK BAKIŞ AÇISIYLA PSİKOTERAPÖTİK MÜDAHALELER

Author(s): Arzu Somay / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 55/2022

When people have problems in using their innate pleasure-taking capacities functionally due to both neuro-bio-chemical and psycho-socio-cultural reasons, they move away from enjoying life and are trapped in a world perception where everything is tasteless. In such a situation, a struggle begins to regain health not only for himself, but also for his close circle and family members. The treatment of "anhedonia", which manifests itself at serious levels in a wide variety of psychopathologies, is a candidate to become a fundamental issue in the effective use of species-specific survivability processes at personal, social and global levels in the near future. Anhedonia, as a symptom or a personality trait encountered in different psychopathologies, can also occur in healthy people. With a transdiagnostic point of view, it will become more and more important to organize and apply psychotherapeutic interventions specific to the individual, with a modeling that takes into account cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, organizational, socio-cultural, spiritual and environmental conditions in anhedonia with a transdiagnostic point of view. In this article, anhedonia is discussed with conceptual and research-based explanations. In the context of transdiagnostic psychotherapeutic interventions, main approaches that can have a direct or indirect curative effect on anhedonia and two model proposals that can be integrated are included.
