Artikulacijsko-fonološke sposobnosti djece s cerebralnom paralizom

Artikulacijsko-fonološke sposobnosti djece s cerebralnom paralizom

Author(s): Emica Farago,Draženka Blaži,Martina Vukovic Ogrizek / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2016

The goal of this research was to examine and compare articulation and phonological abilities in children with cerebral palsy and their typically developing peers. An examination was conducted on a sample of 15 children with cerebral palsy and 15 typically developing children. The two groups were equalized by gender and age. The measuring instruments used were the Articulation Test and phonological ability tasks. The data were analysed using the robust discriminative analysis, t-test, chi-square test, as well as the Cohran-Cox test. The results showed a signifycant statistical difference in articulation and phonological abilities between children with cerebral palsy and typically developing children. The difference between the groups is for the most part due to the variables deletion of consonants and number of articulation errors. The variables first voice segregation, phonemic analysis, and rhyme searching are also signifi cant in creating this discriminant function. The results also confirm statistical differences in articulation and phonological abilities that are related to the type of cerebral palsy. A group of children with a spastic type of cerebral palsy was more successful in phoneme analysis, syllable analysis, consonant deletion tasks, and rhyme searching tasks. They also had better articulation abilities.

Rola obrazów mentalnych w procesie myślenia zwierząt. Czy język jest warunkiem koniecznym myślenia?

Rola obrazów mentalnych w procesie myślenia zwierząt. Czy język jest warunkiem koniecznym myślenia?

Author(s): Honorata Korpikiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2015

In the article it is argued that the conviction that verbally expressed language (as commonly employed by humans) is necessary for thinking is not justified. Animals have been found to employ various communication systems (languages) and, though these are different from human language, they testify to consciousness and thought. Recent research among autistic people has indicated that they frequently think in images rather than words, and it is suggested that this was the original feature of human thinking and may also be the basis of animal thinking.

Author(s): Mergalyas Mergalimovich Kashapov,Irina Vladimirovna Serafimovich,Tatiana Vyacheslavovna Ogorodova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2015

The results of the empiric study used as theoretical foundations and metacognitive substantiation of situational/metasituational professional thinking, which is the evaluation criterion of communicative situation solving, are presented. The comparison of the multilayered construction of professional thinking and the metacognitive approach has made it possible to reveal the specific features of metacognitive strategies according to the type of professional thinking. It has been demonstrated that the level of metacognitive activity influences the dynamics of transition from situational professional thinking to metasituational one, as well as the variations in interaction between the types. It has been proved that the acts of problem solving during the transition from situational to metasituational thinking are characterized by the orientation to self-development and creativity.

Author(s): Olga Aleksandrovna Serova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2016

The paper examines the effect of including a statute regarding special disability of persons suffering from mental illness in the Russian civil legislation. Legal enacting of additional criteria for assessing the ability of the citizen to realize the effect of their actions and to control them has great importance for the development of the civil society in Russia. There is a rejection of the concept of insulating treatment of persons suffering from mental disorders. The society is aware of the negative effects of stigmatization of mentally deranged persons. The significance for social adaptation of afflicted persons and their involvement in social processes is recognized. Any restriction of the legal capacity of persons with mental derangement requires a clear definition of the term “assistance of another person”. There is no unique approach to maintain or reduce the family capacity of citizens that are incapacitated. Mental derangement has a significant impact on human behavior in legal relations, legal qualification of actions. To date, the problems of capacity (sanity) are studied separately in civil, administrative, and criminal laws. This leads to gaps in legal regulations, thereby resulting in the lack of unified criteria for evaluating the status of persons with mental disorders. Identification of mental derangement or temporary loss of knowledgeable behavior cannot be a subject of study of one area of law. Implementation of the principle of perpetuation of the legal capacity of citizens with mental derangement should be associated with the research on the degree of awareness of possible social danger that may be caused by their actions. Preventive assessment of the danger represented by persons with mental disorders to surrounding persons is necessary to determine of the degree of control over their own actions.

Zarys Paula Natorpa psychologii ogólnej według „Allgemeine Psychologie in Leitsätzen zu akademischen Vorlesungen”

Zarys Paula Natorpa psychologii ogólnej według „Allgemeine Psychologie in Leitsätzen zu akademischen Vorlesungen”

Author(s): Anna Musioł / Language(s): Polish Issue: 36/2016

In 1904, Paul G. Natorp (1854—1924) published his lectures on general psychology. This article shows that this purely philosophical, yet systematic work describes those issues of psychologism and psychology which would prove most important to the intellectual life of Europe at the turn of the century, and which Natorp interprets in accordance with the provisions of transcendental philosophy. From the perspective of a representative of the Marburg School of Neo-Kantianism, he outlines the philosophical profile of the subject and the method of psychology. He focuses his discussion on the problem of understanding consciousness and highlights the following elements: the content of consciousness, the consciousness of Ego and the relationship between the content of consciousness and the conscious Ego. His analysis is performed from the bottom up (physiology), depicting the mechanics of the operation of the human nervous system. The article addresses the question of the critical interpretation of Paul Natorp’s general psychology, with emphasis on cognitive and relational functions of consciousness (Bewusstsein).

Sense for non-sense. Review of “Enactive Cognition at the Edge of Sense-Making. Making Sense of Non Sense”

Sense for non-sense. Review of “Enactive Cognition at the Edge of Sense-Making. Making Sense of Non Sense”

Author(s): Jacek Olender / Language(s): English Issue: 2-3/2015

The book edited by Massimiliano Cappuccio and Tom Froese is aimed at understanding non-sense in cognition and the process of sense-making. The authors of twelve chapters included in the book focus on different aspects of sense-making in diversified aspects of cognition. The texts included in the book show that sense-making is one of the most important aspects of cognition in general. They put the enactive perspective to the problem, which influences the overall reception of the book. Since enactivism has strong philosophical implications, not everyone will agree with the positions proposed by the authors, and some of the chapters are non-canonical even in their views on enactivism. However, even readers not accepting this approach might find the book interesting and thought provoking.

PRZEŁAMANIE STEREOTYPIZACJI KONSUMENTÓW – SENIORÓW A IMPLIKACJE DLA MARKETINGU

PRZEŁAMANIE STEREOTYPIZACJI KONSUMENTÓW – SENIORÓW A IMPLIKACJE DLA MARKETINGU

Author(s): Sylwia Badowska,Anna Rogala / Language(s): Polish Issue: 41 (1)/2015

Widespread stereotyping of elderly people results in the elimination of this group in today’s consumer marketing. Nowadays consumers-seniors are a new generation and different from the deeply entrenched myths. Today, they belong to the group of active consumers, broadly interested in what markets offer. This newly shaped group requires from marketers firstly, to notice this segment and secondly, adapt marketing actions to the needs of this market segment especially in product policy, marketing communication, branding and marketing system.

Imaginative Variations: A Phenomenological Analysis of Imaginary Worlds in Experiences of Visual Art

Imaginative Variations: A Phenomenological Analysis of Imaginary Worlds in Experiences of Visual Art

Author(s): Anders Essom-Stenz,Tone Roald / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2025

In experiences of visual art, we enter imaginary worlds that consist of phenomenologically distinguishable variations of imagination. In this article, we empirically describe some of these variations and the imaginary worlds of which they are part. Based on phenomenological interviews about intense experiences with visual art, we distinguish between sensory imaginings, imaginings of bodily presence, and situational imaginings, each signifying different imaginary content but all related in a dynamic interplay that shape the coherent imaginary experience. We show how imagination is fundamental to experiences of visual art, and how our imaginary worlds relate to the work of art in different ways.

KVALITETA ŽIVOTA OSOBA S POTEŠKOĆAMA MENTALNOGA ZDRAVLJA

Author(s): Ivan Bandić,Magdalena Brigić,Zdravka Leutar / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2020

The World Health Organization defines quality of life as an individual perception of your own position in life, in terms of the cultural and value systems in which one lives and in relation to one’s own goals, expectations, standards and preoccupations. The paper is focused on the quality of life of people with mental health difficulties. Recently they are being mentioned more and more in the context of the increasingly widespread process of deinstitutionalization. Stigma is one of the factors that contributes to the exacerbation of social relations as well as the quality of life of people with mental healt difficulties,. The aim of the research was to examine the subjective experience and some characteristics of the quality of life of people with mental health difficulties, who are users of the Center for Mental Health in Tomislavgrad. Data were collected using semi-structured interview method. The results indicate that most of their informal support is received from their family members, friends and colleagues. As formal support they mention health institutions. Research participants have a positive image of themselves and they accept their condition. Emotional support is mostly reflected through conversation, and they express the need for spiritual formation. In terms of involvement in community activity, the results are twofold - for example, some users are involved in cultural activities and their work contributes to the local community, whilst other users are prone to self-isolation and disengagement in society. Contentment with life is expressed, but dissatisfaction is expressed due to social benefits that they consider scarce.

W ogrodzie, na śniegu, z piórem w dłoni. Alternatywa wobec świata cyfrowego i jej dydaktyczne implikacje

Author(s): Dorota Tałaj / Language(s): Polish Issue: 33/2024

The article indicates three analog activities (not related to the digital sphere), which are a source of existentially significant experiences and have a significant role in building human well-being. These are: the experience of creating a garden, the experience of a winter forest and writing with pen on paper. The article is based on the analysis of scientific experiments and literary and anthropological reflection. It also shows how the discussed issues can be related to the practices of humanities education.

Dziecięce rozumienie wybranych nazw wartości

Dziecięce rozumienie wybranych nazw wartości

Author(s): Anna Wileczek / Language(s): Polish Issue: 33/2024

The article is devoted to the analysis of the understanding of selected names of social values by five-year-old children, such as friendship, responsibility, honesty, respect and tolerance. The research material was obtained through conversations (free, directed) with children who had turned five years old. Also tools of cognitive semantics (cognitive definition) were implemented. The results indicate that five-year-old participants in preschool education mostly recognize the given values, and their conceptualization and reconstruction of meanings are based on analogies that reflect concretized social interactions. Axiological phenomena are usually not internalized and are perceived in terms of concretized object, persons, or interaction qualities, which is typical of the transitional period between the preconventional and conventional stages. Children explain the world from a subjective point of view, focused on their own needs and benefits, although quite often, they refer to duties and the need to follow rules.

(Re)theorizing the measurement of conspiracy theories

Author(s): Daniel-Radu Iordache / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

This text critically examines whether psychometric scales represent a robust measurement choice when studying conspiracy theories: a key philosophical and methodological gap in the literature on conspiracy theories. I call into question whether such scales have content validity, predictive validity and whether studies employing these instruments manifest external validity, respectively. These issues manifest differently across the two types of scales examined. The adequate development of applied scales is unfeasible because it is impossible to objectively define an ideal combination of items that fully captures the conspiratorial themes they aim to measure. Applied scales will, then, always have limited content validity, which will not only impair our ability to understand whether they really measure the construct in question but will also prevent us from using them in a standardized way. While generic scales may seem superior to applied scales in that they allow for standardized measures, they seem to suffer from the same problem due to the theoretically limitless number of dimensions needed to fully capture conspiratorial ideation. Consequently, the degree to which the predictions made on the basis of these scales are valid (i.e. predictive validity) and their generalizability (i.e. external validity) becomes unclear. In this text, I argue that the employment of psychometric scales does not represent a robust method of measuring conspiracy theories. This situation raises concerns regarding the current state of the literature, since these instruments are widely used in this research area. Given the discussed shortcomings, I propose a novel approach to measurement, one that involves indirect assessment of conspiracy theories. Moreover, a better alternative to existing measures is considered, namely discourse analysis.

Author(s): Yulia Valerievna Batenova,Oksana Gennadievna Filippova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2024

Introduction. The article presents a theoretical analysis of the main ideas on the problem of social emotions and social competence in the context of the development of self-regulation and interaction skills, as well as the role of parents in this process. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the effectiveness of the development of certain indicators of social emotions in older preschool children, such as emotional expressivity and self–regulation, using an innovative method of reflective conversation. Materials and Methods. A narrative approach was used as a methodological basis of the study. The main research methods comprise the analysis of scholarly literature devoted to the problem of the development of social emotions in older preschool children; as well as evaluation methods, including observation (V. M. Kholmogorova and E. O. Smirnova’s ‘Primary orientation in children s’ relationships’), testing (R. M. Chumicheva’s inventory for determining the ability of a 3-7-year-old child to assess mental states of another person), situation analysis, the method of reflexive conversation, as well as methods of statistical data processing (criterion φ – Fisher angular transformation). 68 preschoolers participated in the study. Results. The authors substantiate that the study of emotional expression and regulation of emotions of older preschool children is significant for understanding and choosing techniques for developing appropriate interactive skills. The relationship between the socio-emotional competence of older preschool children and reflective conversation has been determined. It has been proven that children’s ability to regulate their own emotions contributes to increasing their overall social competence. As a result of comparing the data of primary and secondary assessment of the experimental and control groups according to the indicators established: assessment of the mental states of another person, initiative, sensitivity to peer influences and the prevailing emotional background, significant differences were revealed. Conclusions. The experimental study of the influence of reflexive conversation on the development of social emotions and skills of emotional self-regulation allowed us to establish a causal relationship between indicators of socio-emotional competence and the constructive algorithm for conducting reflexive conversation. The study concludes that reflective conversations contribute to the development of emotional expressivity and self-regulation as indicators of social emotions in older preschool children.Introduction. Влияние уровня познавательного развития дошкольников на успешность их адаптации к школе

Author(s): Tatiana A. Filippova,Alla S. Verba,Kirill Viktorovich Orlov,Lyudmila V. Sokolova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 5/2024

Introduction. The article studies the problem of children’s adaptation to systematic learning at primary school, which is significant in a rapidly changing world, determining both the conditions of the educational environment and the requirements for the level of preschoolers’ preparation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of the level of preschoolers’ cognitive development on their adaptation to systematic learning at primary school. Materials and Methods. The methodology of the study is based on a systematic approach that allows the authors to reveal psychophysiological characteristics of the subject, the complex of which provides the most complete picture of the child’s development. The following methods were used: theoretical analysis, synthesis; diagnostic methods, allowing to assess the level of cognitive development and academic performance of the examined children; methods of mathematical statistics for processing empirical data. Results. Through theoretical analysis and generalization of research data, it is shown that the majority of children have developed basic cognitive functions by the older preschool age. However, carrying out a comprehensive diagnosis of the preschoolers’ functional development in preparatory groups, the authors identified low levels of voluntary regulation, visual-spatial perception and visualmotor coordination in a third of the examined preschoolers. Based on the data analysis of these children’ academic performance at primary school, the authors identified influence of the level of the above mentioned cognitive functions in preschool age on academic performance at primary school. Longitudinal analysis showed a gradual increase in academic performance in this group of students by the third year at primary school. Conclusions. Based on the results obtained, the authors showed that the level of cognitive functions development, as well as social and communication skills, significantly influences the successful adaptation of first-year primary schoolchildren and subsequent academic performance at primary school. In conclusion, the authors point out that it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of cognitive development in older preschool age in order to identify individual characteristics and predict possible risks of maladjustment at school.

Когнитивно-рефлексивное развитие личности: оценка особенностей воздействия изменяющейся информационно-образовательной среды

Author(s): Elena Aleksandrovna Pushkareva,Yury Viktorovich Pushkarev / Language(s): Russian Issue: 6/2024

Introduction. The article presents the results of a research investigation on the problem of modern individuals’ cognitive development, the mechanisms of formation of their reflexivity in modern conditions of societal information development. The aim of this study is to assess and identify the features of the impact of changing information and educational environment on cognitive processes of modern individuals, which determine transformations in the development of the mechanisms of their reflexivity based on a critical review of current research investigations. Materials and Methods. The research is based on the systematic approach, the theory of philosophy of education, and the cognitive theory of personality. The research methodology involves analysis and generalization of international and Russian scholarly works that consider the problems of information development of society, the specifics of the formation of cognitive processes in the development of education. Results. The article presents the results of the theoretical study, assessment and systematization of the impact of changing information and educational environment on cognitive-reflexive mechanisms of modern personality development. The critical review of current studies has shown that the issues of assessing and identifying the features of the impact of the changing information and educational environment on the cognitive processes of a modern personality, which determine the transformation in the development of the mechanisms of its reflexivity, are significantly updated at the present time in connection with changes in the cognitive and educational fields. It is shown that nowadays the problem of changing development orientation within the education system is significantly relevant with the focus on global transformations of social development, which entailed transformations in the higher education system, which determined the transformations not only of the university, but also the entire education system. Special attention is paid to the changes in the ontological and methodological foundations of changes taking place in modern conditions. Currently, the problems of forming critical thinking and determining personal mechanisms of reflexive cognition require a revision of theoretical foundations. As a result, the basic understanding of modern changes has been revealed: the problems of changes in the modern educational environment; the capabilities of the changing digital environment for the adequate functioning of the education system in modern conditions; the potential of the new educational environment for the formation of cognition of educational stakeholders. Conclusions. In conclusion, the authors summarise the results of the analysis of modern individuals’ cognitive development, the mechanisms of developing their reflexivity in modern conditions of changing information and educational environment.

Особенности реакции вегетативной нервной, сердечно-сосудистой и эндокринной систем на учебную нагрузку в острый период адаптации к школе

Author(s): Oksana Nikolaevna Adamovskaya,Irina Vladimirovna Ermakova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2025

Introduction. The problem of first-graders’ adjustment to schooling is relevant, since the success of further education depends on its course. In the available literature, there are practically no results of comprehensive studies revealing the reactions of stress-implementing systems (autonomic nervous, cardiovascular and endocrine) of the body of first-graders during acute adaptation to learning loads. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the reaction of the autonomic nervous, cardiovascular and endocrine systems to learning loads during the acute period of adaptation to school. Materials and Methods. The methodological approach of the research is P. K. Anokhin’s theory of functional systems, according to which functional systems are selectively involved in adaptation processes to changes in environmental factors. In order to assess the activities of the autonomic nervous system, the method of heart rate variability (HRV) and galvanic skin reaction (CGR) were used. The functional state of the cardiovascular system was studied by indicators of heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP). The state of the endocrine system was assessed by the level of cortisol in saliva. Results. The article presents the results of a comprehensive study of first-graders’ adaptation to learning loads at the beginning of the school year. The examined children were divided into three groups: students with hypersympathicotonia (25 %), with optimal functioning of regulatory systems (50 %), and with relative vagotonia (25 %). Adaptation to systematic learning in children with optimal functioning of regulatory systems was accompanied by a decrease in vegetative activity by the end of the week without involving the cardiovascular and endocrine systems. In children with excessively high activity of the sympathetic department of the ANS, the highest values of the studied indicators of the cardiovascular system were noted. In half of the children with hypersympathicotonia, excessive sympathetic activity persisted during the school week. In children with a predominance of parasympathetic regulation of heart rate, there was a decrease in vegetative activity by the end of the school week. Children with hypersympathicotonia and relative vagotonia, demonstrated adaptation stress compared to children with optimal functioning of regulatory systems. Conclusions. The study concludes that the stress of adaptation to learning loadx at the beginning of systematic schooling is noted in 50 % of first-graders. Schoolchildren with hypersympathicotonic type of heart rate regulation have a high risk of developing autonomic dysfunction.

Processing of unaccusative structures in people with aphasia and healthy population

Processing of unaccusative structures in people with aphasia and healthy population

Author(s): Nermina Čordalija / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2023

This paper provides an overview of several studies that investigated processing of unaccusative structures in populations of people with aphasia (PWA) and healthy speakers. Unaccusative structures are known to be notoriously difficult for patients with Broca’s aphasia. In the paper, we address seminal works that proposed The Argument Structure Complexity Hypothesis and The Derived Order Problem Hypothesis to account for the deficits that occur in the production of unaccusative structures in Broca’s aphasia that is characterised by slow and effortful speech. We also refer to studies that explored processing of unaccusative structures in healthy populations. These studies reveal that the moved unaccusative subject is stored in the working memory until the parser reaches the sentence position where the unaccusative argument was merged and then it is reconstructed at that position. We also address the interplay between unaccusativity and the category of aspect that was investigated in some experimental studies. Finally, the paper provides directions for future research in L1 and L2 processing to build upon the state of the art on unaccusativity.

Suicidalnost i ptsp: pregled dosadašnjih spoznaja o ulozi komorbidnih psihičkih poremećaja

Author(s): Vildana Aziraj-Smajić,Zana Aziraj / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 4/2017

The purpose of this article is to give a comprehensive overview of the role of comorbidity in suicide risk among people with PTSD. Based on recent studies, there is strong evidence about the cohesion between suicidality and PTSD, especially when there is comorbidity with another psychological disease inherent. Comorbidity with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation is found to be the most signifcant predictor of suicidality among people with PTSD. The risk of suicidality is also increased with comorbidity with Substance Related and Addictive disorders. Also, it is found that comorbidity with Addictive and Psychotic disorders, mostly disorders from the schizophrenia spectrum, significantly increase suicide risk among people with PTSD. Further, it is found that comorbidity with Borderline Personality Disorder is strongest among comorbidity with Personality disorders in predicting suicide risk among people with PTSD. The clinical implications of this article are relevant to the possibility of practical use of scientifically based research results, and their use in clinical practice with the goal of improving the psychological evaluation of suicidality.

Perspectives on Suicide: Bosnian and Herzegovinian and Croatian Views from the 1880s to the 1930s

Author(s): Jelena Seferović / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

The phenomenon of suicide is a profoundly intricate topic, influenced by a myriad of factors encompassing biological, biochemical, cultural, sociological, interpersonal, psychological, philosophical, conscious, and unconscious components. The examination of press publications, patient records from Croatian psychiatric institutions, and scholarly discourse on suicide in the medical literature from the period between the 1880s and the 1930s reveal that among the diverse perspectives of journalists and psychiatrists of that era, there are notable variations in terms of defining the reasons for suicide attempts. The absence of consistent explanations underscores the enigmatic nature of the ultimate resolution to end one’s life. Although numerous experts and laypeople have claimed to know the exact motives behind someone resorting to suicide, some have continued to look for an explanation in otherworldly forces or individuals with supernatural powers. In essence, the multifaceted nature of suicide necessitates a nuanced and comprehensive approach, integrating various disciplines and perspectives to attain a deeper understanding of this phenomenon.

Author(s): Karolina Starnawska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 6/2024

The aim of the article is to present the short story Cud kwitnących sadów (1987) by Wanda Osuchowska-Orłowska and the novels Ostatnie drzewo na Ziemi (2021) by Małgorzata Kur and A kiedy zniknie pustynia (2020, Polish edition 2022) by Marie Pavlenko, addressed to young readers. These stories, subjected to an ecocritical reading, can help in repairing the future thanks to new, better stories about it, as postulated by Marcin Napiorkowski. All of the above-mentioned texts analyzed in the article are intended to make the recipient aware of the consequences that threaten the human species if all trees disappear from the Earth. These are fantasy stories set in the near future. They all bring hope that even damaged ecosystems can be rebuilt, and the key to this is the personal involvement of people – scientists, but above all, children characters – in saving trees. This personal involvement is made possible by building a personal relationship with trees. This bond in turn, is created thanks to stories passed down from generation to generation.
