Edukacja o zdrowiu i dla zdrowia w szkolnym nauczaniu religii - konieczność czy chwilowa moda?

Author(s): Anna Zellma / Language(s): Polish Issue: _/2014

Interest in human health has been growing in recent years and increasing attention has been devoted to public health. This has resulted in campaigns to benefit environmental hygiene, control contagious diseases, propagate the principles of personal hygiene and to organise medical services in order to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases of civilisation. Issues related to prevention and care for individuals and groups have come in for much attention. Moreover, a healthy lifestyle is promoted among children and adolescents. As a consequence, education on health and for health and education of issues sometimes regarded as identical to health and health-promoting education, is developing rapidly, both in theory and practice. This study analyses whether the implementation of the principles of education on health and for health in teaching religion is a necessity or just a fad. The paper briefly explains the term: “education on health and for health”. An assessment is made of the correlation between teaching religion and education on health and for health. The opportunities and threats of education on health and for health in teaching religion are also described.

Mathematics in the Classroom: Conceptual Cartography of Differential Calculus

Mathematics in the Classroom: Conceptual Cartography of Differential Calculus

Author(s): María de Lourdes Rodríguez Peralta,Juan Salvador Nambo de Los Santos,Paula Flora Aniceto Vargas / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2015

This paper presents the results of a documentary investigation with the intention of substantiate how and why, and the level and depth of the topics used by the teacher in the classroom for the development of the mathematical knowledge on the part of higher level engineering students. The analysis of the mathematical object was made through the construction of conceptual cartography, being the core of the derivative concept. To construct the axes, the socio-formative theory of Sergio Tobón was used, together with the semiotic representation register of Raychmond Duval and Tall's mathematical advanced thought in the engineering context. The topic is a part of the Unit of learning: Differential and Integral Calculus. This corresponds to the first semester. The course lasts for a semester and is intended for students aged between 18 and 20 years. The research shows that by constructing a conceptual cartography involving at least 8 axes of analysis that the socioformation orientates, and taking mathematics in the context of careers offered by the educational institution, the teacher is allowed to place the thematic content in the appropriate level and depth, guiding in a possible treatment of knowledge to be brought into the classroom.

Program Evaluation: Integration of Educational Software into the Elementary School Math Curriculum

Program Evaluation: Integration of Educational Software into the Elementary School Math Curriculum

Author(s): Peter Kiriakidis,Tonya Johnson / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2015

At the research site, which was one elementary school within a public school district, teachers used educational software to help their students increase proficiency in math. The purpose of this program evaluation case study was to examine the perceptions of teachers of the integration of math software into the curriculum. The conceptual framework was based on the social learning theory. Purposive sampling was used to select teachers to participate in face-to-face semi structured audio taped interviews. Data were collected from 6 elementary school teachers who taught math and used educational math software in their classrooms. Data were analyzed using line-by-line thematic analysis for emergent themes. The findings indicated strategies teachers used to integrate software into the math curriculum to enhance learning via small group instruction. These findings can be used by school and district administrators regarding professional development opportunities for teachers on using successful strategies to integrate educational software into the math curriculum.

АКТИВНИ И ПАСИВНИ ОБЛИЦИ РОДИТЕЉСКОГ АНГАЖОВАЊA У ДЕЧЈЕМ УЧЕЊУ/

Author(s): Jasmina Radojlović,Danijela Ilić-Stošović,Nela Đonović / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2015

There are many determinants of parental involvement. Parental involvement in children’s education can take a number of forms, both within the home and in school, suggesting that parental involvement is a very complex activity. The aim of this paper is to provide information about parental involvement in their children’s learning activities and schoolwork, as well as to provide information about a possible correlation between active and passive forms of parental involvement in Serbia. The method of this study is analytical and descriptive. Data collection for the survey was conducted during the first semester of the academic year 2011/12. This study is based on the data collected from 1,028 parents of 586 children aged 6.5-10.5, who attended two state elementary schools in Belgrade, Serbia. The results show a high level of parental involvement and correlation between active and passive forms of involvement. Parents report a high level of involvement in children’s education. Most parents report the passive form of involvement (encouraging children to study and to do homework), rather than the active form (provide help with the homework). The results may suggest that parental involvement is a general construct and that parents who are interested in their child’s education are involved both actively and passively. This can also suggest that children’s academic achievement in Serbia depends both on active and passive parental involvement and that a good measure of both can yield good results.

SCHOOL COACHING - A NEW ROLE OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR OR A NEW PROFESSION?

Author(s): Dorina Sălăvăstru / Language(s): English Issue: XIX/2015

Emerged in the United States at the end of the 1990s and in France during the 1980s, coaching is a way to assist individual development, so that people exploit their potential and maximize their performances. Coaching has its roots in the field of sports; then it spread into the business world and private life. Over the last years, coaching entered school life as well. Less developed than business coaching, school coaching expresses the need for providing the student with individualized assistance in the context of the increase in school competition and in the context of goalsrelated pressure linked to performance. The present study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the roles of the coach and school counselor and brings up the possibility of the school counselor carrying out coaching. Also, a model of the fields of intervention for the school counselor is proposed.

Assessing public speaking skills of future primary school teachers

Author(s): Dan Pătroc / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2015

Starting from some trivial and empiric observation on the quality of public speaking competencies within the professional group of Romanian primary school teachers, I have designed an evaluation grid in order to assess the public speaking skills of future primary school teachers. The results of this small exercise show that public speaking is far from being a trump in the hands of future teachers. From this perspective, this article is the equivalent of a plea for the introduction of public speaking classes in teacher training programs.

APPLICATION OF INQUIRY-BASED INSTRUCTION IN THE INITIAL SCIENCE TEACHING

Author(s): Marija Bošnjak,Dušanka Ž. Obadović,Ivan Bogdanović / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

Inquiry-based instruction is very important for the development of the pupils’ research skills and for easier acquiring of scientific contents. This type of teaching allows the gradual inclusion of pupils in an active learning process that leads to the development and understanding of scientific contents by asking questions and through data analysis and critical thinking. This paper presents the results of the tests of the efficacy of the model of inquiry teaching in the realization of physics contents in the initial teaching of natural sciences. The sample consisted of 112 fourth grade pupils (56 pupils in the experimental group and 56 pupils in the control group) from two elementary schools in Sombor (Serbia). The initial, the final and the repeated knowledge tests are used to measure the quality of knowledge of physics contents. Descriptive, causal and comparative methods were used for results processing. Research results analysis showed that by the use of the model of inquiry teaching higher quality of knowledge was achieved compared to the traditional approaches in the initial teaching of natural sciences.

THE INFLUENCE OF MULTIMEDIA ON THE CREATION OF TEACHING STRATEGIES

Author(s): Nevena Dimić,Zoran Stanković / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The social efforts during the last few decades to make thorough the changes within instructional processes (internal, pedagogical, that is methodical reforms), have resulted, indeed, in substantial positive progresses, but not to the extent previously expected and desired. While the science of didactic teaching should be complimented on its continuous work and theoretical contribution, it is generally felt that methodology has not applied these findings quite sufficiently. This is precisely the reason why the affirmation of methodology and methodological training of teachers is nowadays seen as a major step forward in reformation of upbringing and educating future generations. The main goal of this paper is to make a wider professional and scientific community aware of the latest findings and achievements of a relatively young scientific study (didactic approach to multimedia) and to point out, through good examples from everyday life, a growing trend of abandoning single methodic approaches and to show the need for adopting new teaching strategies, as a necessary precondition for ’awakening’ our education process. The basic feature of any transition, even those found in education, includes substantial and fundamental changes with the aim of modernizing and improving the complete education process.

STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES ABOUT MORAL VALUES IN PHYSICAL CULTURE

Author(s): Miloš Marković,Božo Bokan,Miloš Kukolj / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

A relationship between Ethics as a philosophical discipline and Physical Culture as a scientific discipline was considered in the first part of the paper. Two theories of Ethics which are of significance for the study of morality were presented in the qualitative research approach – Utilitarianism and Deontological Ethics. The results of the empirical research of the students‟ attitudes about certain moral values in physical culture were presented in the second part of the paper. The students‟ attitudes about moral issues in physical culture were examined with the aid of a basic research hypothesis, the attitudes being the product of educational content and pedagogical influences, with regard to: the level of studies and gender of the respondents. The results are in favor of confirming the hypothesis on different moral attitudes depending on the age and gender of the respondents. Further qualitative and quantitative approaches are necessary for a more thorough profiling of moral attitudes in physical culture, with regard to relevant ethical theories.

Level of Satisfaction in School – Pupil and Teacher Perceptions

Level of Satisfaction in School – Pupil and Teacher Perceptions

Author(s): Otilia Clipa,MIHALACHE Elvira,Serdenciuc Nadia Laura / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2016

The need to cope with the raising expectations which the society has from the education, compels the teachers to enlarge the limitations of the traditional education system in order to discover, filter and implement new teaching and assessment methods by which it could harness the cognitive and emotional potential of all the children they work with. By applying the multiple intelligence theory, the teachers meet the pupils’ needs to benefit from the opportunity of learning in ways that match each one’s unique way of thinking. The study is based on applying a questionnaire which studies the satisfaction degree of the pupils within the Romanian traditional educational system and the ways to attract them to school.

The role of the Romanian language in the context of the modern didactics

Author(s): CRISTINA LEMNARU / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2015

This article aims to give a brief overview of the main issues raised by the Romanian language in teaching and learning activities. In learning Romanian language as a foreign language, a number of difficulties may appear which may be related to the specific grammatical structure. A first obstacle may be represented by phonetic system of the Romanian language because here we have some specific sounds (letters). Another problem is the emphasis, as in Romanian, unlike other languages, the focus position varies a lot. It can be at the beginning, middle or end of the word without any clear rules in this regard. It is also a problem related to the understanding of verbal and nominal flexion. The word in the Romanian language changes its shape very much and we are witnessing phonetic alternations that are relatively hard to explain and to understand. At the morphological level, we have seen problems in understanding the adjective agree in gender with the noun for the foreign speakers where this grammar rule does not exist. As methodological suggestions, we obviously focus on starting from the basics to the complex in teaching Romanian language, to get a good fixed minimum fund which then can be returned to the more complex elements of grammar and vocabulary. We find the exercise method the most efficient one: proper forms identification exercises, translation and retranslation exercises, filling the gaps with the appropriate forms exercises, word order exercises, etc. If the Romanian language is under the guidance of the teacher, the conversation method is a very good one. We must not forget that the Romanian language is an important goal for Romanian culture knowledge.

REALISATION OF AESTHETIC-COGNITIVE FUNCTION OF THE READINGS IN MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING FROM FIRST TO THIRD GRADE

REALISATION OF AESTHETIC-COGNITIVE FUNCTION OF THE READINGS IN MACEDONIAN LANGUAGE TEACHING FROM FIRST TO THIRD GRADE

Author(s): Vesna Horvatovikj / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2015

Literary-artistic compositions, first of all, have an aesthetic function but when the same are used in the teaching they as well fulfill the cognitive function. The best “angle of view” of one literary-artistic composition in the teaching is through the balanced relation of “dolce” and “utile”. The instructiveness of literary-artistic compositions in the teaching is not ultimate and should not be considered as a task that is to be performed. For the purpose of realization of these basic functions of literary-artistic compositions envisaged in the teaching, the main precondition is their appropriate selection pursuant to the age of the reading audience (the students).

CORRELATION BETWEEN FUNCTIONAL ABILITIES AND AGILITY RESULTS IN CHILDREN WITH KYPHOTIC POSTURE

CORRELATION BETWEEN FUNCTIONAL ABILITIES AND AGILITY RESULTS IN CHILDREN WITH KYPHOTIC POSTURE

Author(s): Igor Stanojević / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2015

The aim of research was to determine statistically significant canonical relations between functional abilities and achieved agility results in children with kyphotic posture. The realization of such task would create possibility to come up with a more rational procedure for optimal planning, programming and control of the process of teaching corrective gymnastics. The research was conducted on a sample of 46 students of primary schools in Niš, all male, aged 12 (± 6 months), included in regular classes of PE and exercises in order to correct kyphosis three times a week for 45 minutes at Niš Health Center. The results of canonical relations with the results of the functional abilities of children with agility kyphotic posture were statistically processed in a way to provide answers to the research goal. We used the program “Statistica” 8.0 for Windows to calculate the descriptive statistical parameters and canonical correlation analysis. The results showed that there are statistically significant relations and influences between a set of variables for assessing functional ability, as a predictor system, and agility, as a criterion variable.

POSSIBILITIES OF TEACHERS FOR MONITORING, DETECTING AND RECORDING OF INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENTS IN EARLY SCHOOL AGE

POSSIBILITIES OF TEACHERS FOR MONITORING, DETECTING AND RECORDING OF INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENTS IN EARLY SCHOOL AGE

Author(s): Tatjana Koteva-Mojsovska / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2015

The monitoring and recording of the individual characteristics of children are very important for the development of quality education. Also the views of the teachers about the differences in the development, the potentials and the affinities of the children in the early school period are especially important. The quality education process in the modern school should be adapted to the individual potentials of the children. The children are individuals with their own integrity and characteristics. (Johnston and Halocha, 2010). They have individual pace and develop individual approaches in the learning process. This individual pace in the development of the children requires the teachers to regularly monitor and record the individual characteristics and differences of the children, monitoring the children’s interests, planning instruction which will adapt to the different learning approaches and the different pace of progress of the students.Setting out from this paradigm, this paper, which is based on a realized research, aims to offer findings about the treatment of the individual characteristics of the early school-age children in our country. According to this, we carried out a research in four primary schools in Skopje, which showed us that the teachers lack the appropriate conditions and possibilities to monitor and record the individual characteristics and the specific differences of the students in the early school period.

As one of the two basic aims in the key fields of intervention in the National Program for Development of the Education in the Republic of Macedonia for 2005-2015, the issue of increasing the primary education, from 8 to 9 years, was posed. The requirements in this period are mainly initiated by the developmental characteristics of the children. The need for more intensive application of play and the activities of play has been shown to be the most appropriate approach in the process of acquiring of knowledge, abilities, skills and habits, and as an educational reform it should be respected in school conditions. The subject of scientific research refers to the didactic-methodic components of the activity of play in the first educational cycle. The methodology, methods and techniques that were applied during the course of the research are: the method of analysis (analysis of content and structural analysis), the descriptive method and the method of comparison, as well as the techniques of analysis of pedagogical documentation, observation and surveying. On the basis of the received results, it can be concluded that: the organization and realization of the activity of play partially depends on the professional training of the teachers; the majority of teachers believe that the syllabi are appropriate for the realization of the activity of play as a methodical concept; the necessity of appropriate didactic-methodical preparation of the teachers for realizing the activity of play.
