Крепостные сооружения средневековой Алушты

Крепостные сооружения средневековой Алушты

Author(s): Vladimir P. Kirilko / Language(s): Russian Issue: 6/2014

Crimea; Aluston; Justinian I; medieval fortification; Alushta towersHistory of Alushta, which developed from a small Byzantine outpost to a small urban center — i. e. Genoese commercial trading post with a powerful fortress — distinguishes five main construction horizons connected with erection of specific fortification structures:1 — early Byzantine (560s — second half - late 7th c.),2 — Khazar (8th c. — first half of 10th c.),3 — Byzantine (950s — late 13th c.),4 — Golden Horde (late 13th — 1380s),5 — Genoese (1380s — 1470s).The fort was founded by Justinian I (527—565) and first represented a trilateral court fenced by powerful walls, erected atop a small hill at the seaside. In the 9th — 10th cc., the area of the fortress extends towards the field side owing to a smal trading quarter fenced by a defensive wall from the outside. The wall was destroyed in 10th c. and was not restored ever after. For a number of centuries, the initial fort served as the only protection for the urban dwellers. The second line of defense reemerged in 1420s. The most important changes in fortifications happened in 1460s, and hence the fort acquired its accomplished form. It included capital reconstruction of the external wall, then out-of-date and worn. The obsolete curtains were replaced by a new, more powerful wall, which was erected outside, in the immediate vicinity with the old curtains, and which was fortified by three towers at the field side.

Fluidity of Image (Photo)Montage in Cultural and Artistic Contexts of the Time

Fluidity of Image (Photo)Montage in Cultural and Artistic Contexts of the Time

Author(s): Jozef Sedlák,Kristína Svítok Mayerová / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

The paper explores the fluidity of (photo)montage in image in the cultural contexts of the times, emphasizing the uniqueness of the medium of photography and its ability to transpose the referent as opposed to reality. The text analyses the dialectic between technical mistakes and creative processes that lead to the emergence of new artistic categories and practices. It provokes a discussion on how photography challenges the image. Meanwhile, the processes of spontaneous errors are being examined, including double exposure or accidentally botched photographs for example, that contribute to new forms of artistic interpretation and experimentation. The topic of the imaginative is present throughout the article, from Husserl’s phenomenology to Dadaism and Surrealism, with an emphasis on the transformation of dream images and their interpretation. The component of authenticity in montage and photomontage is emphasized, including how these techniques create new visual identities. The text uses theoretical takes of major thinkers such as Roland Barthes to open up a broader discussion on the ontology of the image and its interpretation, providing a comprehensive view of the transformation and significance of photography in modern art.

Грамотността – интердисциплинарно понятие (Върху примера на обучението по български език и музика в начален образователен етап)

Author(s): Penka Marcheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 6/2024

The publication focuses on some interdisciplinary aspects of the concept of literacy. In scientific aspect definitions of literacy, musical language as a system of functioning of musical literacy are presented. A distinction is made between musical literacy and musical notation literacy. The normative aspects of literacy in teaching Bulgarian language and music in primary school are presented. In practical application, the integration that can be observed at primary school age, when pupils are introduced to letter writing (Grade 1) and musical notation (Grade 3), is traced. The possible connections, the general algorithm and the content parameters of both processes are traced. It is emphasized that the relation “signifier – signified” is the basis of both processes.

РИТУАЛНОТО ПОГРЕБЕНИЕ НА ХАН КУБРАТ

РИТУАЛНОТО ПОГРЕБЕНИЕ НА ХАН КУБРАТ

Author(s): Zarko Zhdrakov,Plamen Orfeev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 24/2024

The arrangement of the vessels from khan Kubrat’s treasure (Kurt in the Nominalia of Bulgarian khans), found in the Kurtgorod area near Mala Pereshchepina in Ukraine, suggests a ritual burial with cremation and selected bones in related to shamanism. Around the large silver jug with handles there was a golden goblet placed as a head. The golden and silver goblets were arranged in two rows and below them the dishes and other vessels were laid, some of which upright. The rows of cups accompanied the khan like the stones-spirits (devtashi) with a “leader”, where the golden ones had bells with horse bones. The “leader” is represented by a richly decorated golden goblet with green glass and strings of pearls in connection with the Zoroastrian new year "Nowruz", celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox (March 21) with the rebirth of nature.

Музеят в хипермодерните времена: основни тенденции в пиар комуникацията

Author(s): Hristina Hristova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 2/2024

The main tendencies and priorities in the strategical and communication management of the museums in the hypermodern times are being examined in the text. In the dynamic context of the epoch, significant changes in the public life related to the triumph of the digital technologies and the transformations in the communications and the marketing are being observed. In the large-scale processes, which comprise the separate industries and draw new perspectives in the development of the organizations from different social fields, the museum as a type of a cultural institution with a rich history, is transformed into an open territory for the new tendencies and successfully implements the tools of the digital PR whose identity is being formed and manifested in the times of the hypermodernity, which came into existence in the last quarter of the ХХ century. In the conditions of increasing competition and the growing interest towards technological innovations, the museums in a worldwide scale, apply new approaches in the communication with their diverse audience and constantly widen their integrative potential. The study is based on the theoretical formulation of the French philosopher and sociologist Gilles Lipovetsky about the hypermodern and hyperconsumerist society.

Decoding Cultural Treasures: Toward a Restoration Framework for Folk Dowry Chest

Decoding Cultural Treasures: Toward a Restoration Framework for Folk Dowry Chest

Author(s): Stefania Mesteriuc / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

This comprehensive scholarly investigation employs a systematic approach merging visual comparative analysis and semiotic examination to discern and interpret symbols and semiotics within historical dowry chests. Drawing from the extensive artifact repository at the National Museum of Bucovina and an analysis of pieces from the storage facilities of the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum, the primary objective of this study is to decode the visual and symbolic narratives within the context of formulating a comprehensive intervention methodology for the restoration of a distinctive collection of dowry chests, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of their provenance. The research focuses on the two primary typologies, „Woodworker’s” chests and „Carpenter’s” chests, revealing common motifs, such as the enduring symbolism of fertility represented by the iconic tree of life and the resplendent flora, bearing cosmogonic and faith-related significance, whether of pagan or Christian origin. Notably, the analysis distinguishes these typologies. „Woodworker’s” chests exhibit symbolic motifs contributing to a nuanced narrative, albeit encoded, conveying messages through their ornamental intricacies. Conversely, „Carpenter’s” chests manifests a penchant for aesthetic ornamentation devoid of explicit narative informational symbolism. As generational shifts unfold, the ornamental lexicon undergoes simplification, mirroring transformations in the recipient’s interpretive lens. Beyond academic inquiry, this study holds practical implications for the preservation and restoration of culturally significant artifacts. By decoding the rich semiotic fabric woven into these dowry chests, it informs the development of a robust methodology for the restoration of unique pieces, ensuring the preservation of their historical, cultural, and artistic value for future generations. In essence, this research not only uncovers hidden layers of meaning within these intricate objects but also contributes to their enduring legacy as vital cultural treasures in need of preservation.

Przedświt: fascynacja architekturą mykeńskiej i archaicznej Grecji w Niemczech schyłku XIX i początków XX wieku

Author(s): Rafał Makała / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2024

At the beginning of the 20th century, German architecture saw a turn towards the art of antiquity, which was partly a reaction to the profusion of decoration in late historicism and Art Nouveau. However, the so-called Reformarchitektur was interested not only in classical antiquity (and the art of classicism and neoclassicism), but also in earlier periods, especially Mycenaean art. This was, of course, related to the discoveries in Troy, Mycenae and Tiryns, but the social and political context of the time was equally important. One of the foundations on which the national identity of the Germans in the 19th century was based was the myth of the ancient Germans, who were supposed to be characterized by courage, sincerity and natural morality. According to the creators of this idea (F. Avenarius, J. Langnehn, A. Haupt, G. Kossinna et al.), the Germans, next to the Greeks, were one of the original peoples of Europe (Urvolk), sharing ideas and artistic forms. In the north of the continent, they were allegedly preserved longer than in the Mediterranean area because the Nordic nations did not take part in the development of mimetic art. Consequently, it was believed that in the architecture of the Mycenaean period, as well as in buildings from the Homeric and archaic periods (as well as in Etruscan and ancient Roman buildings), we could find forms typical of the unpreserved Nordic architecture, destroyed in the process of Christianization. Therefore, Mycenaean and archaic architecture became the subject of interpretation in the spirit of nationalism, perceived, however, in a broader sense than just the framework of one nation. This was related to the category of “Nordic nations” as well as an even broader vision of the “primordial peoples of Europe”. These views and research became one of the inspirations for the architecture created at that time with reformatory, modernizing ambitions.

Analysis of being a man in Sacred Defense Cinema. The Case of Hatamikiya’s Bodyguard

Author(s): Elnaz Pakpour Aghghaleh,Bahire Efe Özad / Language(s): English Issue: 65/2023

The political developments in Iran at the end of the 20th century, particularly the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war immediately after the revolution in Iran, had a deep influence on storytelling in general and movie-making in particular. This gave rise to new social definitions, including a unique form of masculinity. The war, with its masculine atmosphere and Shi'ite-rooted ideology, gave birth to a new definition of masculinity, which can be seen reflected in the Sacred Defense Cinema genre. Sacred Defense Cinema has played a significant role in defining gender with Islamic roots. This paper aims to shed light on Iranian cinema, specifically the Sacred Defense Cinema, through an analysis of Hatamikiya's film “Bodyguard”.

MIGRACIJE U KNJIZEVNOSTI I UMJETNOSTI

MIGRACIJE U KNJIZEVNOSTI I UMJETNOSTI

Author(s): Jasmina Nikčević / Language(s): Montenegrine Issue: 2/2024

There are currently more than 60 million refugees in the world. More than 60 million people are fleeing war, violence and oppression. Over 60 million stories. With these words, the collective Power of Art House (Amsterdam) describes the migration crisis we are currently experiencing. Starting from the fact that literature, painting, cinematography, photography, music, art and culture as a whole gather and unite people and their stories, we would like to see the complexity of the phenomenon of art and creativity. We will present some works of great European authors, created in different historical periods and circumstances, which emphasize the importance of the experience of exile and migration in the aesthetics of French art. Since art has always been a strong voice of condemnation of persecution, injustice and crime, through significant examples of contemporary creativity inspired by the theme of migrants in the European framework, we will try to answer the question of whether and to what extent art affects a change in thinking and attitudes, i.e.why is it in the current moment, the attitude towards migrants is often negative, while the experiences of the past, collective memory and art deny us.

Ludomir Benedyktowicz (1844–1926) – bezręki artysta

Author(s): Beata Skrzydlewska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2024

W artykule przedstawiono krótki rys biograficzny artysty malarza Ludomira Benedyktowicza (1844–1926). Należał do pokolenia artystów, w którego życiu niebagatelną rolę odegrało powstanie styczniowe.

Author(s): Alexandru N. Lazea / Language(s): French Issue: 4/2024

The poetics of the body in Bernard-Marie Koltès is a vast subject, sometimes controversial for politically (in)correct, sociocultural or racial reasons. Koltès places the body at the center of many of his texts2 as the main theme around which other elements, secondary themes, such as death, money, time or the question of identity, gravitate. In this article, we propose to find another, new meaning for the notion of the body in Quai Ouest (1985). Critics have observed that the corpse floating in the river is not a simple (theatrical) object, but a reflection of a society adrift, encompassing and, at the same time, enclosing the actors. The theories of Georges Dumézil, Gilbert Durand, Mircea Eliade and others will facilitate our mythocritical approach to Bernard-Marie Koltès' text.We conclude with the question of identity, which becomes a constant in this play, given that the societal environment is a mixture of several immigrants, and therefore several nationalities, who have come together in the same mythical space (the hangar).

Priests, Artists and Heretics, or Meetings of the Resurrectionists with Wojciech Korneli Stattler and Adam Mickiewicz in Rome and Paris

Priests, Artists and Heretics, or Meetings of the Resurrectionists with Wojciech Korneli Stattler and Adam Mickiewicz in Rome and Paris

Author(s): Maria Nitka / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

The article examines various ideological attitudes among the Great Emigra-tion, represented by a circle of Adam Mickiewicz’s friends, the painter Wojciech Kor-neli Stattler, and the Congregation of the Resurrectionists, especially Father Hieronim Kajsiewicz and Father Piotr Semenenko. The starting point for the discussion of the atti-tudes is a painting discovered during the inventory and documentation of the art collec-tion of the Resurrectionist Order in Rome, depicting the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan River, where John the Baptist has the facial features of Adam Mickiewicz. The painting was attributed to Stattler, based on an analysis of the oeuvre and tracing the painter’s connections with Mickiewicz. This depiction of Christ’s baptism is linked to Mickiewicz’s messianism, and later also to Towianism and its impact on the emigration. Against this background are shown the attitudes of the Resurrectionists, who were involved in fi ght-ing against Towianism. However, they never gave up trying to “reclaim” the poet for the Polish cause and kept the memory of the poet alive.
