Поетика Аполинеровог калиграма

Author(s): Diana Popović / Language(s): Serbian

This work defines the creative principles of Michel Butor’s less-known writings that are based on experiment, poetizing and interaction with fine arts. It analyses hundreds of texts and art sources and focuses on the five-part Illustrations cycle, pointing out Butor’s most important creative techniques: intertextuality, which deals with an innovative use of citations and rewriting not only other authors’ but especially his own texts; and intermediality, dealing with an interaction between fine arts and literature. It presents Butor’s transposition of an aesthetical effect provoked by an artwork into a poetic language. The analyses and theoretical reflections are placed into the broad context of Butor’s work, with an emphasis on theoretical issues and on the continuity of procedures throughout his work.

Author(s): Nicola Savarese / Language(s): Polish

Savarese describes the key events in the history of the 20th-century theatre and culture: when dance – and generally performance – replaced and superseded dramatic theatre, the neo-avant-garde began to separate itself from the avant-garde, social contexts of art began to prevail over its aesthetic autonomy, art regained its metaphysical dimension and took the place of religion, at the same time it immersed deeper in the life of societies, and finally the West blending with the Orient began its postcolonial penance.

Le néofantastique féminin d’Anne Duguël

Author(s): Agnieszka Loska / Language(s): French

The monograph Le néofantastique féminin d’Anne Duguël is an attempt to show the feminine aspect of the prose written by Anne Duguël (1945–2015), a representative of Belgian neo-fantastic literature. Chapter one provides theoretical reflections on fantastic literature and shows difficulties in defining this genre as well as in delineating its fixed boundaries. The reflections serve as a point of departure in the analysis of Anne Duguël’s innovative and original works, provided in further parts of the book. The chapter also presents Anne Duguël’s biography and writing in the context of the profiles of the 20th-century prominent French-speaking women writers practising this literary genre. Referring to the concept of écriture féminine, the last section of the chapter tries to answer the question whether Duguël’s oeuvre can be regarded as feminine and hence analysed accordingly. Chapter two is devoted to the protagonist of Duguël’s works of fantastic literature. The chapter thus provides the characteristics of the female figure and a comparison between her and the male protagonist of classic works of fantastic literature, as well as the narrative analysis which shows the relations between narration and the feminine themes in Duguël’s works. Moreover, the chapter depicts the influence of the reader’s gender in the reception of neo-fantastic works of the writer. Chapter three focuses on the fantastic phenomenon, which in Duguël’s works is closely connected with the female figure and her femininity. The research includes: space-time frame, fantastic objects, female anxiogenic figures, such as a ghost or a vampire, as well as the motif of metamorphosis. The chapter provides an outline on how Duguël enriches motifs derived from classic works of fantastic literature with a feminine element. The last part of the monograph emphasizes the characteristics pertinent to Anne Duguël’s works, and therefore inscribes them in the manner the writer modifies modern fantastic literature by introducing an entirely new, hitherto unknown category, which is women’s neo-fantastic writing. The addenda contain a chronological list of Duguël’s neo-fantastic works, as well as biographical notes of contemporary Belgian and French women writers who represent neo-fantastic literature.

The event was planned as part of the international programme “European Culture – European Identity” which is co-organized by the University of Warsaw with, among others: Universtité de la Sorbonne-Paris IV, Universität Bonn, Universita de Firenze, University of St Andrews, Université de Fribourg, Universita degli Studi Firenze, Universidad de Salamanca, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Université de Toulouse Le Mirail. The aim of the project was to show to what extent the idea of Europe was and is being shaped by the intellectual elites, and to emphasise the role played in this process by important institutions such as universities, libraries, museums, archives, publishing houses, and other centres of intellectual life. Such a framework allowed the participants to reflect in their presentations and discussions on more detailed issues: Panel I – “Engagement in the interest of Europe and its shape”, Panel II – “Europe in comparative perspective”, Panel III – “Remarkable individuals of the intellectual Europe”, Panel IV – “European incarnations”. At the invitation of the rector of the University of Warsaw, Marcin Pałys, the conference was attended by the rectors of the Paris-Sorbonne University and the University of Bonn. La prose de Ken Bugul : entre le réel et le surnaturel

Author(s): Anna Swoboda / Language(s): French

The purpose of this monograph is to analyze the supernatural and real elements, which intertwine in Ken Bugul’s prose. The coexistence of the supernatural and the real constitutes the key to understanding the œuvre of this versatile Senegalese author, oscillating between the Western and the African culture. The publication presents the diversity and hybridity of the supernatural – fantastic, marvelous and uncanny – elements, as well as the protagonist’s lack of rootedness, her fragmented self and multiple identities. The proposed analytical approach is based on Western and African studies on the supernatural in literature, along with postcolonial, feminist and sociological theories.

Dyskurs historii nauki

Author(s): Tomasz Falkowski / Language(s): Polish

The monograph can be regarded as an attempt to answer the following question: How is the history of science written? By putting French-language works produced from the eighteenth to the beginning of the twenty-first century (within such fields as historical epistemology, hermeneutics, studies of science and technology, archaeology of knowledge, history of mentality, ecology of practices, structuralism, historical anthropology, etc.), the author presents the most significant and nodal points in which the discourse on the history of scientific ideas and achievements faced numerous specific difficulties, problems, aporias or challenges. The analyses presented in the book show: how historians are confronted with the various visions that scientists themselves have had and still have of the historicity of science; that historians are faced with scientific disputes whose image was later imposed by their ‘winners’; that the same method used to describe both early and modern science appreciates scientific achievements and yet denigrates them; that historians writing about science and its history are never in a distant (neutral) position, for they are themselves part of a crucial event, the emergence of modern science; and that not every historical description of scientific phenomena corresponds to that of those who shape science.

Mondes humains, mondes non humains

Author(s): / Language(s): French

This book, innovative on the Polish publishing market, is an example of the ecocritical perspective used in literature research. It contains twenty texts written by specialists in French-language literature of the 20th and 21st centuries coming from different Polish and European universities and research centers. In their texts, arranged in five chapters, the authors look at literature through the prism of the links between man and nature. By analyzing different ways in which writers talk about non-human worlds, researchers consider key issues such as the attitude of human beings towards nature and towards the planet, the human-animal relationship, the borders between the human and non-human worlds, ecology, or the quest for a non-anthropocentric perspective.

Prostor a jeho obývání: Zobrazení prostoru v díle Marie Noëlové, Suzanne Renaudové, Christiane Singerové a Sylvie Germainové

Author(s): Václava Bakešová / Language(s): Czech

The publication summarizes the research results of various types of space in the literary works of four Christian inspired French authors, M. Noël, S. Renaud, C. Singer and S. Germain. Their literary texts cover the whole of the 20th century and show diversity in approaches to space, but also a difference in the literature of 1st and 2nd halves of 20th century. Methodologically, it proceeds from the phenomenological view of G. Bachelard on the intimate space of the home, through the open and sacred space according to M. Eliade's study, towards the geocritical analysis of the space, based on the almost unused B. Westphal's theory of geocriticism. The study of space shows that literature can not be separated from the outside world, on the contrary, it contributes to its better understanding.

Facettes de la paresse chez Proust

Facettes de la paresse chez Proust

Author(s): Maria Tronea / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The paper explores the different aspects of otium – leisure – in Marcel Proust’s À la recherche du temp perdu (In Search of Lost Time). Leisure is analyzed as the exquisite pleasure of reading, artistic creation, intellectual carnival or marked by hedonism. The last one is illustrated by a whirlpool of pleasures that the characters get caught into, a vivid image of the Belle Époque society and morals that the narrator, Proust’s spokesperson, describes. He simultaneously reveals the difficult and slow genesis of his work, similar to an alchemic process that ultimately achieves magnum opus – a symbol of recapturing the Lost Time and of the triumph over death.

Attente et décor dans la fiction gracquienne

Attente et décor dans la fiction gracquienne

Author(s): Cristina Poede / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Beside Dino Buzzati, Beckett, Kafka or more recently Alessandro Baricco, Julien Gracq will be remembered in the history of Letters as one of the great masters of an essential theme of the twentieth century: expectation. Slowness and waiting could be paradoxical, if we think of the phrenetic rhythms of this period; not only literature but also the iconic arts showed a preference for the images of slowness: from Dali to De Chirico, from Last Year at Marienbad by Resnais to Rendezvous à Bray by Delvaux, the characters evolve in unchangeable landscapes, surprised by their mysterious geometry. The theme of waiting is inscribed in the Graquian chronotope: the flat calm of the Farghestan sea, the unknown volumes of the Ardennes forest which make time weightless, the beach of the Hôtel des Vagues with its imperceptible modifications, the dark villa of Nueil plunged in the forests waving in the wind. The paper aims to identify the linguistic and narrative structures by which Julien Gracq manages to infuse the feeling of expectation in the reader, while impressing an unmistakable tempo on the fiction.
