A ‘Happy’ Coincidence: Cognitive Capitalism and Well-Being Enhancement in Schools

Author(s): James Reveley / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

‘Almost certainly we are witnessing a shift to...a market individualism of neoliberalism where the self is shaped as a utility maximiser, a free and contractual individual, who is self-constituted through the market choices and investment decisions that he/she makes....In the face of increasingly technical and functional forms of literacy and of schooling, we might inquire whether school in an age of consumerism promotes a relation to the self based on truth-telling or whether this relation has been replaced by another primary ethos: happiness, security, survival, success, ‘self-improvement,’ wealth.’ (Besley and Peters, 2007: 18)

Author(s): Mariana Ianeva,Veselina Portarska / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The introduction of national education systems on the international market related to education services has intensified competition in the internal market and raised questions about the prestige and future of education at national level. In the last few years, the high activity of American, Russian and some European universities with a tourist profile, as well as the unfavorable demographic factors, have greatly influenced the reform of education systems in the process of globalization. One of the most important issues for any school is to increase its competitiveness not only locally but also internationally in terms of the quality of its educational product, as well as to make it recognizable to the new requirements of the modern consumer.

Икономически ефекти от пандемията от КОВИД-19 върху работниците мигранти в ЕС

Author(s): Atanas Pavlov / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

Globally, the migrant workers and their families are highly exposed, both directly to the COVID-19 pandemic and the risk of infection, as well as to the consequent negative economic effects. Prior to the pandemic, more than 270 million people are living outside their country of origin, sending nearly $ 700 billion in remittances to their home countries. As of mid-May 2020, the 20 countries with the most cases of COVID-19 receive 55 percent of the world‘s migrants, who send 54 percent of the world‘s remittances to their home countries. The living and working conditions of both international and internal migrants make them extremely vulnerable to the risk of contracting COVID-19. On the other hand, the negative economic effects of the pandemic and the anti-epidemic measures imposed by the countries have a particularly strong impact on the migrants workers around the world, which leads to a decline in the migrant remittances.

Мониторинг и оценка на въздействието на кохезионната политика за държавите-членки на ЕС от Централна и Източна Европа (2007-2018 г.)

Author(s): Mariela Savkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The threat of major regional disparities in the EU affects the core of the European integration process. That is why in the 90s of the 20th century the Member States adopted socio-economic cohesion in the Union as their primary objective. Thus, from the first Multiannual Financial Framework (1988) until today, they allocate more than one-third of their budget to the regions that are lagging behind in their socio-economic development. How has this goal been implemented in the new member-states (MS) from the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries and does the European funds improve cohesion with the EU? The study evaluates the level of cohesion of eleven MS from the Central and Eastern Europe and their fifty-nine NUTS 2 regions, following the completion of a full multiannual financial framework with the EU. These are the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia. The subject of this study are the factors that accelerate and slow down the process of socio-economic cohesion within the EU. A theory of regional inequalities is studied, related concepts have been outlined and respective conclusions drawn.

COMUNICARE ŞI MARKETING ÎN ACTIVITATEA MANAGERIALĂ

COMUNICARE ŞI MARKETING ÎN ACTIVITATEA MANAGERIALĂ

Author(s): Dochița Florea,Tatiana Gribincea / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

A school is part of the social environment, from which influences operate directly and indirectly. The school and the environment interact openly and dynamically. On the other hand, the social environment influences the school. Influence may or may not stimulate the development of school goals. On the other and, a school can never escape the forces of the environment. Schools, in turn, are able to influence the environment. The interaction between the school and the external environment requires constant attention from management. The continuous survival of the school depends on how the management team adapts it to external conditions. Specifically, the influence is given by the relationships in which the school engages with different individuals, different groups and organizations in the community.

Identity – a Brief Humanistic Perspective

Identity – a Brief Humanistic Perspective

Author(s): Joanna Sośnicka / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Today identity is ‘the loudest talk in town’, the burning issue on everybody’s mind and tongue. Normally, we tend to notice things and put them into the focus of our scrutiny and contemplation only when they vanish, go bust, start to behave oddly or otherwise let us down (Bauman 2004: 16–17).Does the concept of identity find itself in a similar situation? Any extensive analysis undoubtedly blurs the concept, and interdisciplinary approaches do not help with grasping the essence of identity (if that is possible at all). The objective of this article is not to create another definition (we have enough already); instead, by making use of the richness of humanistic thought, the goal is to draw attention to certain dimensions and aspects of realizing identity, which are currently, in the author’s opinion, worth considering. Personal identity is not created in a vacuum – one’s environment and social reality have a great impact on them. The chapter addresses these influences with particular attention to selected elements.

Considerations for the "Digital Single Market"

Considerations for the "Digital Single Market"

Author(s): Ioana Nely Militaru / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

With the Communication from the Commission, entitled "Single Market Act" of 2010, on the Europe 2020 Strategy, the issue of the internal market is relaunched by the European Union institutions. The field of progress of the internal market is oriented towards the digital single market - PUD. The European Union is thus becoming a digital player, which means for the Member States a transformation and adaptation to the information society. A key role in the completion of the digital internal market is played by the Commission, which has tabled numerous legislative proposals since 2010, in parallel with the European Parliament, which has adopted a number of resolutions to this effect. In the context of these regulatory concerns, many questions are emerging about how the digital single market responds to the needs of citizens, businesses and beyond.

Sytuacja mieszkaniowa Polaków i działania organów publicznych w celu jej poprawy

Sytuacja mieszkaniowa Polaków i działania organów publicznych w celu jej poprawy

Author(s): Mikołaj Drożdżyński / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the housing situation of Poles and to present activities of public entities, especially communes, undertaken to improve it. Design/methodology/approach: Secondary data was presented showing the number and ownership structure of dwellings and the demand for dwellings in Poland. The data comes from the Central Statistical Office and the Ministry of Development. The previous activity of municipalities in developing the local housing marketis also discussed and the concept of social housing initiatives is characterized. Findings: Despite the record number of housing units completed in recent years, there is still a shortage of housing units, which negatively affects the socio-economic development of the state. The main barrier to access to housing is its priceand the high growth rate of 1 m2 of space. Municipalities could more actively answer the housing needs of citizens by creating social housing initiatives, i.e. not for profit companies building rental housing with moderate rent. riginality and value: State housing policy has been questioned. The provision of own contribution by the state for certain social groups may lead to an increase in real estate prices, because with their limited supply the demand for these apartments and the price of 1 m2 of space rises. It is postulated to increase the activity of municipalities in the housing market. This may consist in creating social housing initiatives, i.e. not for profit companies building apartments for rent with moderate rent (lower even by 50% in relation to the market rent).

Integration of Instruments for the Protection of Natural Protected Areas in Urban and Biodiversity Strategies and in Urban Planning Regulations

Integration of Instruments for the Protection of Natural Protected Areas in Urban and Biodiversity Strategies and in Urban Planning Regulations

Author(s): Cerasella Crăciun,Atena-Ioana Gârjoabă / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Approximately 75% of the urban settlements in Romania are superimposed or are tangent to at least one natural protected area, these not being integrated from the point of view of their regulation in the urban strategies and in the urban planning regulations. From a spatial point of view, this type of relationship often represents a contrast between the urban fabric and the quasi-natural fabric. However, in the regulatory or strategy instruments for the development of urban settlements, where such contrasts exist, they are only integrated at the border level. The ecotone is, in most cases, the only element mentioned in urban planning instruments and is approached as a land that can only function in isolation and that in no way can support urban development. This reluctance and fear of approaching natural protected areas, also negatively influences the conception of the community, investors and the administration. Urban actors are not informed and therefore not motivated, but neither do they have the opportunity to get involved in the conservation and protection process. The purpose of this article is to research urban and biodiversity strategies at E.U level, to identify gaps in the formulation of urban planning tools, what are the reasons behind generating these gaps and how they can be eliminated, or at least mitigated. The analysis will focus on some models of urban strategies which address natural protected areas, but will also consider related elements, directly related to their conservation, urban ecology and the involvement in the process of urban actors.

Analysis of the Quality-Risk Correlation in the Educational Organization

Analysis of the Quality-Risk Correlation in the Educational Organization

Author(s): Gheorghița Dumitrache (Torcică),Diana Nicoleta Georgescu / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Although, the concept of risk has always been implicit in quality standards in general, the emergence of the international quality management standard ISO 9001: 2015, which is no longer limited only to certain quality management processes but explicitly addresses risk-based thinking, makes risk management part of the strategic and operational planning of the organizational entity and justifies all in all, the concept of integrated quality-risk management, replacing preventive actions with actions taken to analyze risks and opportunities. Therefore, regardless of the field of activity of the organizational entity, quality assurance is strictly linked to the complex and continuous process of risk management, which integrates risk identification, risk assessment, elaboration of management strategies and risk mitigation by using managerial tools to achieve objectives, and obtaining or maintaining quality certification to the highest standards.Keeping this in view, the purpose of this paper was to identify the connections between the two concepts and integrate them into the organization's activity to obtain conclusions, solutions and proposals as managerial support in the educational organizational entities in order to facilitate the efficient and effective achievement of its objectives and to maintain a quality-oriented and risk avoidance.
