Folk and Philosophical Nature of Comic-Tragic Dichotomy in Oleksa Storozhenko’s Short Stories about Cossacks

Folk and Philosophical Nature of Comic-Tragic Dichotomy in Oleksa Storozhenko’s Short Stories about Cossacks

Author(s): Zhanna Yankovska,Oksana Iurieva / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2018

The culture of laughter in every nation’s tradition, including Ukrainian, is characterized by its peculiarities. With its folklore roots, the comic of all kinds has been transformed into fiction. Such receptive relations are particularly close between folk oral tradition and the literature in the period of Romanticism. In this article, the authors are the first to analyse the interaction between categories of the comic and the tragic in featured short stories about Cossacks by O. Storozhenko. The research offers an attractive prospect for the further exploration of other O. Storozhenko’s works as well as for comparative studies of works by other authors’ in the indicated period.

The document is a response to a negative review of a German-written study on fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and Božena Němcová. It addresses two main issues: the technical aspect, questioning the reviewer's understanding of the text, and the factual aspect, discussing the reviewer's misinterpretations and inaccuracies. The author provides examples of misquoted passages and argues that the reviewer's criticisms are based on misunderstandings of the study's content and context. The document also touches on the broader implications of these misunderstandings for the interpretation of fairy tales and their historical and cultural significance. It emphasizes the importance of accurate and context-aware analysis in literary criticism.

ТВОРЕЧКИОТ ИМПУЛС НА РАЈКО ЖИНЗИФОВ (по повод 185 години од неговото раѓање)

Author(s): Valentina Mironska Hristovska / Language(s): Macedonian Issue: 84/2024

Rajko Zhinzifov is a member of the generation of intellectuals who, in the 19th century, made an impact and took part in the radical changes that took place in the social, political, economic, and literary, i.e., cultural plan in Macedonia. His work is the beginning of modern trends in Macedonian culture, or rather he made a rich contribution to the development of poetry - he is a representative of romanticism, and with the poem “Garvan” (1862) we can mark him as a harbinger of symbolism in Macedonian poetry; then in journalism – he appears as the first biographer of the Miladinov brothers; author of the first artistic short story; with attempts also in lexicography; essay writing; he also contributed to folklore and historiography; and as a polyglot in the translation activity.

Pismo Vladimira Nazora kao svjedočanstvo o istarskom doprinosu hrvatskoj dječjoj književnosti

Pismo Vladimira Nazora kao svjedočanstvo o istarskom doprinosu hrvatskoj dječjoj književnosti

Author(s): Vjekoslava Jurdana,Alen Klančar / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 01/2024

The Istrian contribution to the development of Croatian children’s literature is primarily evident in the activities of children’s magazines that emerged there in the early 20th century. Vladimir Nazor published his best children’s stories in these magazines, which are now considered a fundamental contribution to the overall development of this genre in Croatian children’s literature. Nazor left a testimony of his work in the form of a letter, which has been referenced in recent literary–theoretical and literary–historical accounts of Croatian children’s literature. Despite being an important document, it has not been extensively researched or commented on thus far. The aim of this paper is therefore to present its content and the circumstances in which it was created, and to highlight its importance as a comprehensive document in the study of the development of Croatian children’s literature.
