An application of the term „political system“ is nearly connected with the personality of D. Easton and his poits of view wich came into being on the basis of the impulses from biology, cybernetics (the system theory) and mainly from sociology (T. Parsons and structural-functional approach). There are as minimum four basic directions of the modern political system analysis there: - philosophical approaches (mainly the questions os legitimacy); - sociological approaches (society has to create the functional unity with the political system – Parsons, or the society is dual devided – marxism); - juridical approaches (stressing the rule of law, principles of the legal state, and stressing the human and civic rights); - politological interpretations are oriented to analysis of pluralism, republicanism, parliamentary democracy, separation of power, consensus etc.. The modern political system is characterised by following attributes: connection of democratic and liberal principles (with the principle of national state), representative principle of governance, regular elections, free competition of political parties, majority government responsible to parliament, execution and preservation of natural and special human and civic rights, pluralism, people sovereignty, legitimacy of power on the base of people allovance realization, demonstrativeness and communicativeness of political system.

This paper is dedicated to possibilities of scientifi c analysis of political process as one of the most important categories of political science. It consists of fi ve parts. Firstly, we are looking for the essence of the political process by three main approaches: - political proces as the basis of the political system; - political process as a chain of the political events in a certain political system; - political process as a system, respectively as a comprehension of the several partial processes. The second aim af our attention is democratic political process in connection with J. A. Schumpeter´s and R. A. Dahl´s points of view. The third sphere of contemporary analysis is the process of democratization and its political, economic, legal, institutional, self-governmental, cultural, foreign political preconditions. The next problem are the bureaucratic and political level of the decision as the political process where is stressed the idea of limited rationality of political decision-making process. Finally the article contains the brief analysis of the game theory as the specifi cum of the political process theoretical research.

The subject matter of this article are the socio-economic changes in the countries of European Union. The article addresses the changes that occurred after EU enlargement, and the relation of social policy to these changes. In this respect, the author analyzes social conditions in Slovakia and the reform of its social system. Looking critically at the social reform, she emphasizes the fact that a tendency to prefer operative measures to conceptual thinking prevails in Slovak social policy. This ad hoc tendency refl ected in constant changes to social policy results in public disorientation and scepticism towards any further innovations.

“It is a quarter to 3. The last Amen of the Mass has just been pronounced... and I am coming to kiss your hands... while telling you that everything went according to your wishes, and that God blessed me. My Mass began at 1.30. As I had estimated, the whole work lasts only 45 to 50 minutes at most, watch in hand. The performance was perfect, even admirable in several places – without the least little hitch... In all, we were more than 130 singers and players. Unless I am greatly mistaken, the general impression produced by the work is beyond what I could have flattered myself I would obtain... For the moment, I want only to thank and bless you for having inspired me with good thoughts and helped me to work for God!” So wrote Liszt from Esztergom on 31 August 1856 in a letter to Princess Carolyne Sayn-Wittgenstein in Weimar. He was describing the performance of his Gran Mass during the ceremony of the consecration of the Cathedral – the occasion for which the work had been commissioned by the Primate of Hungary, archbishop János Scitovsky. Gran is the German name for Esztergom, and in Hungary the work is referred to by its Hungarian name: Esztergomi Mise.

My recently published book, The 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight which reports on the 20,000 victims of the post-revolution reprisals, has received extensive and positive reviews in many forums of the press. In my book, I examine the events that took place on 23 October 1956 at the headquarters of Hungarian Radio and express my doubts about the prevailing historiography on this subject.1 I have continued my research, consulting mostly non-Hungarian source material, on the events of that day. As a result – having compared multiple credible sources – I believe it can be reliably concluded that the outbreak of the revolution was jointly provoked by Hungarian and Soviet authorities. Unfortunately, the story of 23 October remains to a large extent unrecorded – especially with regard to discovering interconnections among the disparate events. Moreover, in the prevailing literature, very little reference is made to foreign sources.

In late 1943, the Allies were on a roll. Italy no longer carried weight as Germany’s principal European partner, and the Allies built up Joseph Broz-Tito’s ragtag bands of communist outlaws to the point that they challenged German control over a sizeable chunk of prewar Yugoslavia. The Americans looked to Hungary as their next target in breaching the ramparts of Hitler’s vaunted Fortress Europe. Direct and businesslike, they demanded that the Hungarians start delivering intelligence data immediately and turn against Germany as soon as possible.
