The Romanian Revolution: A Marxist Revaluation

The Romanian Revolution: A Marxist Revaluation

Az 1989-es romániai forradalom marxista újraértékelése

Author(s): Gabriel Chindea / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 08/2010

Keywords: Marxism; revolution; hypercapitalism; workers; accumulation; socialism

Offering a surprising revaluation of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, the author argues that, ironically, it followed a Marxist “script”. The socialist regime itself created the social class composed of discontent urban workers and young intellectuals which overthrew it. Furthermore, the actually existing socialism has been, in fact, the hypercapitalism of the state, characterised by primitive accumulation based on agricultural expropriation, the extreme concentration of capital and the disharmony between production and consumption. As such, it was subject to Marxist laws, also meaning that its demise leaves open the possibility of an authentic socialism.

The Romanian Orthodox Church and Modernity

The Romanian Orthodox Church and Modernity

A Román Ortodox Egyház és a modernitás

Author(s): Horia Roman Patapievici / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 08/2010

Keywords: Romania; orthodoxy; nationalism; statism; modernity; internal secularization

This article seeks an answer the question whether nationalism and statism, considered to be the two “natural temptations” of orthodox spirituality, essentially belong to orthodoxy. The author argues that, for historical reasons, the specific problems of modernity could not be raised within the confines of the Byzantine-Slavonic religious culture. Accordingly, the Orthodox Church tends to meet the challenges of the present with distorted reactions. A future solution to this problem could be based on reversing the process of internal secularization brought about by the traditional link between the Orthodox Church and the state.

Author(s): Cristian Bădiliţă / Language(s): Hungarian / Issue: 08/2010

Keywords: Catholicism; Orthodox Christianity; dogma; heresy; Filioque; Immaculate Conception; Infallibility; Purgatory

The purpose of this essay is to refute the Orthodox critiques of the Catholic Church, proceeding from the historical and critical standpoint of catholic theologians on some “controversial dogmas” discussed by the author in the original context in which they were put forward. These disputed issues include the following: the doctrine of the Filioque, the Immaculate Conception, the ex cathedra infallibility of the Pope and the dogma of Purgatory. Beyond the scholarly debate, the paper is also a passionate plea for preserving the basic unity of the Christian Church.

Eva’s New Rebellion, “Woman Issues“ And Transformation Of Marriage And Family In Serbia During Second Half Of 20th Century

Nova Evina pobuna, „žensko pitanje“ i transformacija braka i porodice u Srbiji tokom druge polovine 20. veka

Author(s): Aleksandra Pavićević / Language(s): Serbian / Issue: 2/2013

Author analyses development of “woman issues“ in Serbia and Yugoslavia during second half of 20th Century, in the context of its influence on marriage and family. Though these influences were often quite indirect, they can be observed as one of the most radical ideological penetration in the process of transformation of traditional value system. Ideological climate of the time implied abolishing of all kinds of authorities which were inbuilt in the bases of traditional social organization. This was primarily related to dissolution of faith in eschatological meaning of historical realities, thus “liberation” from God`s authority appeared to be condition and cause of all other ”liberties“. Atheisation meant gradual reduction of human existence to its ”horizontal“ dimension, and thus represented the base of most radical transformations of contemporary civilization. On the other hand, process of woman liberation, which was partly consequence of first, represented gradual (and still unfinished) realization of vision about different organization of human society inside this horizontal line

The Trial Of Dr. Djura Djurović in 1974 And The State Of Yugoslav Communist Judiciary

The Trial Of Dr. Djura Djurović in 1974 And The State Of Yugoslav Communist Judiciary

Suđenje Đuri Đuroviću 1974. Godine i stanje jugoslovenskog pravosuđa sedamdesetih godina 20. veka

Author(s): Slobodan G. Marković / Language(s): Serbian / Issue: 2/2013

The paper sketches the life of Dr. Djura Djurović, a pre WW2 lawyer and a member of the Yugoslav Home Army during WW2. He was convicted to 20 years in prison in 1945 as a member of the Central National Committee (CNK) of the Yugoslav Home Army. The paper compares trial to the leadership of CNK in 1945 and the second trial of Djurovićin 1974. On the basis of Djurović’s file from the SDB (Yugoslav communist secret service) the author analyses the ways how indictment against Djurovićwas staged in 1973, and a show-trial that followed. By comparing his verdict and report from an independent observer from the Amnesty International who witnessed the tiral the author analyses the trial and warns on traps in analyses of cases from that time. The author concludes that in the period of 30 years (1945-1974) Yugoslav judiciary advanced very little in the field of political criminal cases regarding the rule of law. In 1974 equaly as in 1945 there was a bond between secret service, the office of the public prosecutor and court panels dealing with criminal law.

Resolving The Financial Position Of The Serbian Orthodox Church Clergy In The Kingdom Of Scs-Yugoslavia Before The Adoption Of The Church Constitution

Rešavanje materijalnog položaja sveštenika Srpske pravoslavne crkve u kraljevini SHS/Jugoslaviji do usvajanja Crkvenog ustava 1931. godine

Author(s): Dragan Novaković / Language(s): Serbian / Issue: 2/2013

Complex and important issue of resolving the financial position of the Serbian Orthodox Church clergy in the new state has been presented. Starting with the great sacrifices endured during the war and the credit for contribution to the goals of the Serbian leadership, the Episcopate and clergy unanimously came forward with a request for solving the issue by adoption of an appropriate law. A number of texts had been submitted, but they were not adopted because of the political stance of necessity of compliance with the earlier reached agreements and constitutional provisions of equality of the recognized and adopted confessions. Recognizing the difficult financial position of clergy and adhering to the commitment that the adopted standards apply to all, the Regulation on the additions to the high cost was adopted, which provided basic social security to all the priests and religious officials. Precisely determining the awards for Orthodox priests for performed religious ceremonies, the state sent, through the new regulation, a clear message that it did not intend to give up control of the Serbian Orthodox Church and that it would apply the standards and procedures that were not designed for other confessions.

But except for the choice of the currency for the new Kingdom, it was necessary to establish the relations between the existing currency, so that it should be used for the exchange. Central issue was the relation and the exchanging rate between the Serbian Dinar and Austro-Hungarian kruna. The accepted solution and rates were matter of the debates and disputesin economical and political circles in Kingdom of SHS (Yugoslavia) and continued until nowadays, almost a century after. This article provides closer look into different economical standpoints and opinions of the time, as well as the political standpoints and financial analyses of the values ofthe two currencies during the period of the exchange.
