CHALLENGES FACED BY POLAND IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM ACCORDING TO CARDINAL STEFAN WYSZYŃSKI

CHALLENGES FACED BY POLAND IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM ACCORDING TO CARDINAL STEFAN WYSZYŃSKI

Zadania stojące przed Polską w nowym tysiącleciu według Stefana Kardynała Wyszyńskiego

Author(s): Jerzy Buczek / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 22/2015

Keywords: new millennium; cardinal Stefan Wyszynski; faithfulness to God

In his teaching, apart from many other issues, Cardinal Wyszyński pointed out to the tasks facet by Poland in the new millennium, basing on the entire history of the nation and on its relationship with Triune God, Mary and Church. These facts have an effect that the nation, as a community of free citizens, and a family of the families, may fully realise its existence, vocation and mission. Therefore, the duty of the nation and the state is to take the following tasks: faithfulness to God, Cross and Gospel, being united with the Church that leads the nation into the supernatural and onto a higher level of earthly life , care over people and families, love of the Motherland - understood broadly as care over the land, culture, history and love of the motherland that shall be loved as second after God. Caring over an order in personal and social life, facing threats, weaknesses and sin and being led by the teaching of the Gospel and of the Vatican II in building a new order. If Poland bases its future on these values, as was the case for over a thousand years starting from the baptism of Poland, we will be able to look at the future with hope.

MARIO BUNGE’S „SYSTEMISM” – A MODERN FORM OF MATERIALISM

MARIO BUNGE’S „SYSTEMISM” – A MODERN FORM OF MATERIALISM

„Systemizm” Mario Bungego: współczesna postać materializmu

Author(s): Mirosław Twardowski / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 22/2015

Keywords: materialism; emergentism; „systemism”

Materialism is a family of naturalistic ontologies, according to which matter is the only material of all reality. One of the modern proponents of the materialistic doctrine is an philosopher Mario Bunge. According to his version of materialism, called emergentist materialism or, shortly, „systemism”, all material entities are divided into at least five qualitatively different complementary levels: physical, chemical, biological, social and technical. Accordingly these levels correspond to several types of matter: physical, chemical, animated, social and technical. „Systemism” was inspired by the ideas of the Hungarian biologist and philosopher, Ludwig von Bertalanffy’ general system theory. „Systemism”, according to the author's intention, should avoid the simplifications of physicalism, as well as the ambiguity of dialectical materialism. The system materialism is a specific view of the world, the axis of which being emergentism. Emergentism accepts the formation of qualitatively new forms and properties as a result of interactions between the elements of a given system. The opposite concept to the concept of emergence is submergence, which means the loss of one or more of the properties of an entity or system because of its metamorphosis into something else. System materialism („Everything is related to some other things”) is a middle path between the two extreme directions: holism („Everything is related to all other things”) and atomism („Everything follows its own way”). In his explanation of systems, Bunge dissociates himself from naive reductionism („Just explain the whole with the knowledge you have about the elements”), while recommending that a strategy of moderate reductionism („You can reduce anything that just might be reduced, but without ignoring the diversity and emergence” ). In the center of the materialistic system ontology is the thesis that there are no absolutely isolated things: everything works together with (some) others. Together they form coherent systems.

UNIVERSAL DIMENSION OF WRITTEN KERYGMA

UNIVERSAL DIMENSION OF WRITTEN KERYGMA

Uniwersalny wymiar kerygmatu pisemnego

Author(s): Edward Wasilewski / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 22/2015

Keywords: evangelization; homily; oral kerygma; written kerygma

A word which can be uttered or written, given orally or in writing, is a basic carrier of the Good News. Particularly during the patristic period the idea of written kerygma was developed, which played a significant role during the presecutions, when a written tradition was also reaching the environments hostile to Christianity, unavailable to proponents of the Word of God. The idea of this kerygma was also cultivated in the subsequent centuries of the Church history and played a leading role in promoting the tradition of the Revealed teaching. The contemporary homilists who decide to record their homilies in writing have a possibility to spread the kerygma of the Good News which will also last for centuries. Correctly and accurately prepared written kerygma can become commonly available and universal in respect of geography and history.

EXCOMMUNICATION. HISTORICAL AND CANON LAW OUTLINE

EXCOMMUNICATION. HISTORICAL AND CANON LAW OUTLINE

EKSKOMUNIKA. RYS HISTORYCZNO-KANONICZNY

Author(s): Anna Terpin / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 21/2014

Keywords: excommunication; penalties in Church; censures; medicinal penalties

The first mentions of excommunication can be found in The Bible and in the teaching of Fathers of the Church. From the beginning, excommunication was the most severe sanction of all the penalties in canon law. Excommunication excluded one from community of the faithful, but did not brake all of ties. There was always a possibility of reconciliation with God and the Church. Over time excommunication was being used more often and more offenses were sanctioned with excommunication. This kind of penalty was either latae sententiae or ferendae sententae. Many popes created more and more regulations concerning excommunication. All of them were compiled in Gratian’s Decretum and Decrets of pope Gregory IX. One of the most important regulation of excommunication was promulgated by pope Martin V apostolic constitution Ad evitanda (1418). It introduces the distinction of excommunicated person into vitandi et tolrati. The Code of Canon Law (1917) changed the situation of excommunicated persons, but this punishment still remained the most severed sanction in canon law.

THE OUTLINE OF THE HISTORY OF THE CHAPTER HOUSE IN THE HISTORICAL AND LEGAL ASPECT AS THE COLLEGIAL ORGAN OF THE DIOCESE UNTIL THE TRIDENT COUNCIL

ZARYS DZIEJÓW KAPITUŁY W ASPEKCIE HISTORYCZNO-PRAWNYM JAKO ORGANU KOLEGIALNEGO DIECEZJI DO SOBORU TRYDENCKIEGO

Author(s): Roman Wałczyk / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 21/2014

Keywords: chapter; canon; the diocese; the cathedral; collegiate

The name ‘chapter’ is the Latin word ‘capitulum’, which stands for eccle- siastical bodies consisting of the clergymen, or a meeting and deliberation of this body. The community referred to as chapter was a derivative phenomenon of the canonicate, assuming institutional and corporate features. The chapters existing by the bishops’ cathedrals played an important role in the history of the Church, since they led the common life and performed a festive service for the God in the cathedral church; they fulfilled the role of the advisory body for the bishop, and from 12th century they elected bishops. The chapters functioning by churches other than the cathedral ones, known as the collegiate, never had such rights. Their essential task was to perform the cult of God in their churches. As a result of Trident Council there was a distinction made between the role of chapter houses and they were subjected to ordinaries.

THE INVENTORY OF THE PARISH OF SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL IN IWIENIEC OF 1939

THE INVENTORY OF THE PARISH OF SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL IN IWIENIEC OF 1939

INWENTARZ PARAFII ŚWIĘTEGO MICHAŁA ARCHANIOŁA W IWIEŃCU Z 1939 ROKU

Author(s): Waldemar Żurek / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 21/2014

Keywords: the history of the Church in Poland; the history of Borderlands; Roman Catholic parishes in the East

On the basis of the inventory of April 1939, prepared by Rev. Wincenty Franckiewicz, who gave St. Michael the Archangel’s parish church in Iwieniec to his successor Hilary Pracz – Franciscan, we gain information on a brief history of the baroque church and the Franciscan monastery in the borderlands town of Iwieniec. On this occasion, we also learn about the history of the first Roman Catholic parish of the Holy Trinity in Iwieniec, dating back to the mid-sixteenth century. After the Partitions of Poland, Tsarist Russia held dominion over these areas, and Catholic parishes in these areas were often dissolved due to repression after uprisings. Such a fate befell the parishes and churches of Iwieniec, and they were given to the Orthodox Church by the decision of the tsarist government. Only after the First World War, when Poland regained independence, the church in Iwieniec was restored to Roman Catholics. The inventory of the parish of Iwieniec presents the condition of the parish, including pastoral work, church property, the condition of religious buildings and outbuildings, the parish archive, and the activity of the parish office.
