Marketing and Communication in Romania’s Next Sports Decade: Identifying Key Success Factors in the National Strategy for Sport 2023

Author(s): Brîndușa Maria Cergă / Language(s): English / Issue: 45/2023

Keywords: Sports; National strategy; Key success factors; 5C protocol; Success measurement;

Sports in Romania is experiencing a surge of popularity and desire to improve in all areas, after years of decline in which the statics have raised concerns. Enabling this industry with a clear plan and raising the standards is paramount for the future development of the sports scene. In this context, the present paper aims to explore the National Sports Strategy of Romania (NSS23), with the objective of identifying key success factors related to marketing and communication and determining whether they can be measured against future success. A content analysis of the NNS23was conducted. Compliant items include clear objectives and methods, a statement of ownership and responsibility, and the beneficiaries. The analysis revealed that the document is missing some data, such as limitations, terms of quality and resources, which must be included to measure the success of the strategy. Additionally, it was found that in its current form, the NSS23 cannot be accurately measured against future success due to the lack of financial and capacity resources related to marketing and communication. Suggested amendments can help to ensure that the strategy is complete and can be properly assessed against future success. Future research directions are proposed to explore the NSS23.

100th Birth Anniversary of the Great Man: Mihailo Markovic (1923–2023). Markovic and the role of the engaged intellectual

Author(s): Milanko Ј. Govedarica / Language(s): English,Serbian / Issue: 1/2023

The starting assumption is the opinion that Marković’s opus is quite relevant for the re-examination of the role of the socially engaged intellectual, particularly in regional and global circumstances today. The basic procedures in dealing with the topic are: (1) presentation of Marković’s main accomplishments, (2) analysis of the meaning and the place of the dialogue in communicative modalities of the opinion and (3) confirming the thesis about the harmful dialogue deficit through an illustrative example of the so-calledcollective West. The most important results refer to the explanation of the dissident anddialogue role of the socially responsible intellectual, as well as the corroboration of the opinions about Marković’s proper attitude in that respect.

Book review on "Cafenele filosofice LUMEN", volume 1, edited by Antonio SANDU & Bogdan POPOVENIUC, LUMEN Publishing, 2023

Author(s): Bogdan Popoveniuc / Language(s): English / Issue: 2/2022

Keywords: Book review; Cafenele filosofice LUMEN; Philosophical cafés; volume; Antonio SANDU; Bogdan POPOVENIUC; LUMEN Publishing

The philosophical cafés were formally established for the first time by Marc Sautet as a technique for facilitating philosophical dialogue. The theoretical foundation of this model is based on the Habermasian theory of communicative action and the conviction that the literary and philosophical cafes, seen as spaces of public debate, form the genuine genesis of the public sphere. The founder of philosophical cafés as a practice of philosophizing opened the first philosophical cafe in Paris in 1992. The concept became soon internationally widespread. After having been initiated in France, it quickly developed in countries such as England, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, America, Canada, Japan, Australia, and so on. Its basic ideas, consistent with those specific to practical philosophy, aim to return philosophy to the original practices of intellectual exercise intended for an elevated audience, but not necessarily an aristocratic or culturally fancy one. Practically, the philosophical cafe reinvents the idea of a literary cafe, taking from it the spirit of public debates. However, their triggers were ideas found in philosophical texts. The focus is not necessarily on the philosophical rigor of the discussions, but, above all, on sparking notions of tolerance and spiritual openness. This particular model of practical philosophy is constituted in a framework of general philosophical discussions. Their thematic concerns are most varied, without necessarily involving professional philosophizing. The participants of the philosophical cafés address a diversity of topics, which are just an excuse for the exercise of rational abilities, critical and creative thinking. They aimed for prospective approaches in a relaxed atmosphere, uniting people keen on free discussions, in a friendly and accessible public third space.

Jan Rowiński (1936–2023)

Author(s): Kamil Zeidler,Joanna Kamień / Language(s): Polish / Issue: 23/2023

Professor Jan Rowiński died on 2 January 2023 in Piaseczno (near Warsaw). He was a member of the Academic Council of the Centre of East Asian Studies at the University of Gdańsk and of the scholarly bi-annual journal Gdańsk East Asian Studies.Jan Rowiński was a professor of the University of Warsaw. As a scholar and a diplomat, he was concerned with China for most of his professional life. He wrote many scholarly articles and books on the politics, culture, and history of China, and his passion for these subjects inspired generations of undergraduates, doctoral students, and colleagues. Inter alia, he owed his knowledge of China and the Chinese to the experience of the many years he spent there first as a student and later as a diplomat.He was born on 11 May 1936 in Kiełpiny. From 1954 to 1959, he studied at the University of Beijing and at the Institute of Diplomacy in Beijing. From the beginning of his studies in Beijing he devoted his entire professional life to the study of East Asia, especially China. He witnessed the transformations that took place in China, and observed the changes in the structures of power there. China had a considerable influence on his way of life. It is difficult to overestimate his contribution to research into that part of the world.His professional life ran on two tracks: on one hand, in diplomacy; on the other, in the academic world. As an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked in the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beijing. Between 1995 and 2001, he was counsellor-minister plenipotentiary and deputy ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the People’s Republic of China. From 1969, he was connected with the Polish Institute of International Affairs, where he held several academic posts, and after completing his habilitation in 1987 was appointed professor there. In 2002, he became professor at the Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw in the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, where he worked until 2013. At the University of Warsaw, he conducted classes on the foreign policies of China and Japan, the history and civilization of East Asia, and international relations in the Asia-Pacific region. He supervised the work of many doctoral students and reviewed doctoral and post-doctoral dissertations.For his achievements, Professor Rowiński was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Gold Cross of Merit.

Greece’s 2023 Elections

Author(s): George Tzogopoulos / Language(s): English / Issue: 05/2023

Keywords: Greece; 2023; elections; Kyriakos Mitsotakis; SYRIZA;

This article analyzes political trends and dynamics in Greece by placing emphasis on the general elections of May and June 2023. By using data from several surveys in the 2019 – 2023period, it attempts to explain the reasons for the re-election of New Democracy and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the simultaneous failure of SYRIZA and its former leader Alexis Tsipras. In so doing, the analysis demonstrates that the majority of Greek citizens decided to renew their trust in the governing party and the prime minister due to their negative memories of the SYRIZA-led administration of the 2015 – 2019 period. Fear for a return to the policies of those years also played a role. While Greece has taken a clear direction toward the political right and Kyriakos Mitsotakis seems unbeatable, policy challenges ahead in tandem with the potential re-organization of the center-left could have an impact on the political stage in the medium and long term.
