The king’s new clothes royalty – from fairy tale to reality

The king’s new clothes royalty – from fairy tale to reality

Author(s): Radost Ivanova / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2006

Royalty, and their public and private life, have always been the focus of attention no matter where one is in the world. We Bulgarians are no exception in this respect. From a historical point of view, however, the communist power did away with the monarchy in 1946, thereby formally stifling interest in the fate of monarchic institutions and personalities. In fact one of the ideological guidelines in the construction of socialism started with the negation of monarchism in part through the taboo placed on a discussion of the monarchy in the mass media and printed publications. The political changes in the wake of 1989 have restored freedom of speech and returned to the media the right to inform Bulgarian citizens on all matters of interest...

CASE STUDY ON RE-ADJUSTMENTS DEPENDING ON PRICE MODIFICATION

CASE STUDY ON RE-ADJUSTMENTS DEPENDING ON PRICE MODIFICATION

Author(s): Diana Cozma Ighian / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 2/2011

Keywords: accounting system; financial statements; prices; inflation

Inflationary moments, characterized by significant price rises, have proved that accounting systems based on historical costs provide a distorted image of the reality: the elements of the balance sheet are under-valuated, and the stock-related expenses and amortization in the profit and loss account are also under-valuated. Under these circumstances, the result is over-valuated, and its distribution leads to allotments from the company’s capital. In this paper we draw up a case study with regards to the methods used for adjusting price modification, clearly outlining, through a comparative analysis, the main differences between the accounting system based on historical cost and inflation accounting.

The common man under normal situations

The common man under normal situations

Omul obişnuit în situaţii normale

Author(s): Ion Mircioagă / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2013

Keywords: drama; ordinary; realism; reality

Most of the Romanian contemporary drama deals with ordinary people being in ordinary situations. This paper aims to reveal some of the characteristics of such plays. The author tries to define a subtype of theatrical realism, (he calls it kitchen-realism), and emphasises the importance of the concept of “world stage”. The research of the histrionic dimension of the man is essential in order to understand reality, and to analyse theatrical realism. Finally, two dangers are noted that accompany the excessive concern for the common man and normal situations.

FORMS OF COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGNS IN 1946-1948. CLUJ COUNTY CASE STUDY

FORMS OF COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGNS IN 1946-1948. CLUJ COUNTY CASE STUDY

Forme ale propagandei comuniste în campaniile electorale din anii 1946-1948. Studiu de caz: județul Cluj

Author(s): IOANA MARIA Cozma / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 08/2009

Keywords: communism; propaganda; manipulation; election campain; women; peasantry; workmen

Since its first days of existence in the Soviet Union, one of the top priorities of the new communist regime was to create a new man, as part of a larger process of reevaluation of all values, necessary in order to create a brand new world. To accomplish this task, the Communist Party used on a massive scale, for the first time in world history, the instrument of the propaganda. In Romania, a country in which the process of stalinisation started on the 6th of March 1945, the first post-war elections offered a good opportunity for the communist propaganda machine to test its effectiveness, taking into consideration the consequences of the results of these elections for the Romanian Communist Party. This article explores the problems, results and ways of action and manifestation of the then-borning communist propaganda, with the occasion of the first two general elections in Romania after the Second World War.

IMAGES OF POVERTY IN BRITISH SUFFRAGIST THEATRE

Author(s): Verónica Pacheco Costa / Language(s): English / Issue: 25/2019

Keywords: British suffragism; poverty; theatre; women’s rights; case law;

British suffragist associations, such as the Women Writer’s Suffrage League, Actresses’ Franchise League and The Pioneer Players, produced and performed plays in support of the women’s suffrage; they were an ideal medium for disseminating suffragist propaganda and other topics related to women’s issues, like the shameful labour conditions women had to put up with and, as a consequence, their poverty. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which enabled women over the age of 30 to vote for the first time in the general elections of December 1918, and the 100th anniversary of the Parliament (Qualification of Women) Act 1918, allowing women to stand for election to the House of Commons, this paper aims to analyse the representation of working women’s poverty in several suffragist plays.

Author(s): Ştefan S. Gorovei / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 66/2020

Keywords: usurpation du patronyme vs. descendance authentique; prénoms; boyards; Tăutu; Bucovine; Bessarabie; Odessa;

Verdian lyric theatre. Hermeneutics of the performance and contemporary challenges

Verdian lyric theatre. Hermeneutics of the performance and contemporary challenges

Verdian lyric theatre. Hermeneutics of the performance and contemporary challenges

Author(s): Edith Georgiana Adetu / Language(s): English / Issue: 23/2021

Keywords: Verdi; hermeneutics; interpretation; performance;

Engaging the viewer in a dialogue with the opera of Giuseppe Verdi is an approach that involves him spiritually, culturally, morally. You can enter this universe of opera music through several gates. The wide path of science will walk through the portal of stylistics, aesthetics, philosophy or art history. On another road comes the profane, motivated by the love for the beautiful. The opera Nabucco was the first step in the evolution of Italian lyrical theatre – from melodrama to realistic drama – characterised by the unity and strength of artistic conception, the energy and simplicity of musical language. Verdi’s dramatic sense and affinity for realism propelled him over time into the role of composer- playwright, his name being closely linked to titles such as: Ernani, Luisa Miller, Macbeth, Othello, Falstaff. However, we can note in recent decades the lack or low presence of important titles among Verdian operas in the repertoire of lyrical theatres. Can the contemporary public still receive this composer’s authentic message? Can current performers wear the clothes of truthful characters and meet the composer’s requirements for the vocal approach? The mission of hermeneutics – this interdisciplinary science – is to discover, as far as possible, the mechanisms of the interpretation of a social phenomenon (as the opera of Giuseppe Verdi has been repeatedly perceived), and its reminiscences in contemporary society.
