Author(s): Nevena Kostić / Language(s): Serbian

Keywords: Nevena Kostić;

Rođena sam i živim u Leskovcu.

Keywords: Women in Black; activism; women's resistance; victims of war; refugees; women's peace politics;

We are an activist group and a feminist-antimilitarist network made up of women from different generations and different ethnic groups with different social statuses and various levels of education. We have different lifestyles and sexual identities. What we share is a rejection of all forms of war and violent politics, first those of the state and community in which we live and then all others. We share a commitment to women's visible and public resistance to all forms of patriarchy, nationalism, militarism, and fundamentalism. A varying number of people participate in Women in Black's street actions and other activities. Sometimes, there are only a few; sometimes, there are hundreds, depending on the political and social circumstances, the need, and other factors.

Ratni zločin silovanja

Author(s): / Language(s): Serbian

Alternativni modeli pravde – prakse pravde u zajednici

Author(s): / Language(s): Serbian

Keywords: anti-militarism; pacifism; feminism; peace; solidarity

We are a group of women who, in Black and Silence, express our protest against war. Th is type of protest was by Israeli woman pacifist in January 1988, protesting against the occupation of the Palestinian people, supported by Palestinian and American women. In this manner, the women have demonstrated that women s solidarity confronts us and divides us with well defined aims. In February of this year, Italian woman pacifists in the same way protested their opposition to the war in the Persian Gulf. The same was done by woman pacifists in Germany and Britain. Some weeks ago, Women in Black in Italy protested against the war in Yugoslavia. Women in Black of Belgrade each Wednesday gather in public places to protest, in black and silence, against the war.

Keywords: peace; feminism; security; resolution 1325; anti-militarism; activism; solidarity

The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1325 ‘Women, Peace and Security’ on October 31st, 2000. It is the first time that the UN Security Council advocates at such a high level the inclusion of women in peace processes and implementation of peace agreements. As for Serbia, ten years after the adoption of SC Resolution 1325 not only that state institutions did nothing in terms of implementation R1325, but they remained deaf on permanent and long-term efforts of civil society organisations to implement the Resolution. Women in Black, starting from 2005, have been demanding the implementation of SC Resolution 1325 and the adoption of Women in Black’s Resolution ‘Women, Peace and Security’, with the requirements specific for political context in Serbia. In fact, we had the support of dozens of civil society organisations, and also of several MP’s in the Parliament of Serbia. Unfortunately, our requests were not included in the agenda of the parliamentary sessions, which testifies to the extremely scarce democratic capacity and lack of political will of the current institutions in Serbia to acknowledge initiatives and efforts of autonomous civil society organisations in Serbia and of their failure to comply with international obligations. Out of very pragmatic reasons of adoption of international documents, in early 2010, the institutions of the Serbian state began the drafting process of NAP for the implementation of Resolution 1325. Activists around the world have been giving us early warnings of the danger of bureaucratization of R1325 by States, even by some NGOs; that happened in Serbia - Resolution 1325 has been misused by the ruling elite and some NGOs, in order to achieve certain political goals. NAP drafting process testifies to the absence of autonomous civil society organisations from the process; it also testifies to the fact that the state representatives do not acknowledge lasting efforts and initiatives of civil society organisations to educate, promote, and lobby for the implementation of SC Resolution 1325 in Serbia. The whole drafting process of NAP in Serbia was non-transparent, undemocratic and non-inclusive, which is proven by the results of a research survey, prepared by Women in Black, along with other numerous activities, in order to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the SC R1325. Complete report about cited research survey shall be given later in this publication. The state of Serbia will adopt the NAP for the Implementation of the SC Resolution 1325 in order to meet yet another formal request by the international community and Women in Black will, with the support of related autonomous civil society organisations, monitor the implementation of the Resolution 1325 and will notify all relevant local and international institutions about the process.

Women's side of war

Keywords: war; pacifism; feminism; anti-militarism; activism; violence; victims

This book, an anthology of women’s records about the wars waged on the soil of the former Yugoslavia in 1991-1999, is the product of a yearlong exploration in cooperation with many women’s organizations, human rights organizations, organizations which deal with the past and reconciliation, and the individual women who bravely voiced their experiences, recorded their experiences and/or endorsed these experiences. We made our selections from the sources within our reach. The available sources are listed in the Bibliography. We hope that this book will not remain the only one of its kind and that it will encourage further research and more books. With the exception of some inevitable abridgements marked (…), we have reproduced all of the texts faithfully.

Nezavisni monitoring primene Rezolucije 1325 u Srbiji

Author(s): / Language(s): Serbian

Keywords: Serbia ; Slovenia; Croatia; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Dayton Agreement; Kosovo; Yugoslavia; JNA

In the period from 1991 to 2000, Serbia was marked by significant processes, the effects of which are felt to this day: first of all, we are talking about the aggressive military campaigns of the then Serbian regime (from 1991 to 1995 on Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which continued after the Dayton Agreement with a low-intensity war against the Albanian population in Kosovo, which in 1999 resulted in a military intervention force of the NATO pact on Serbia and Kosovo). The Serbian regime is the most responsible for the breakup of Yugoslavia, primarily because the armed forces of the former Yugoslavia - the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) - sided with it, and with various paramilitary formations, which without exception were under the control of the regime's security services, committed numerous crimes in various parts of the former Yugoslavia. The Serbian regime waged a war against the civilian population, but also wars of plunder whose purpose was to redistribute the national wealth...

Keywords: Women’s Court; Yugoslavia;

The texts in this publication have undertaken the difficult task of presenting the complex process of establishing, bringing together and finally organizing Women’s Court for the successor countries of SFR Yugoslavia. Following the premise that Women’s Court is a space for women’s testimonies, a space for hearing women’s voices as well as the space for acknowledging their resistance, in 2010 an initiative to go ahead with this process was revived during the course of which, the preparing and organizing the Women’s Court gathered activists from all successor countries of SFR Yugoslavia.

We are a group of women who express opposition to the war in black and silence.Such a protest began the Israeli pacifists, January 1988. year, opposing the occupation of Palestine. They were joined by American and Palestinian pacifists. These women thus proved that women's solidarity knows the limits of national, religious, state even when the regime deliberately conflicts and shares them. The same form of protest of the Italian pacifists, February this year, expressed resistance to the war in the bay. They were joined by the English and German pacifists. For weeks, Women in Black in Italy protest against the war in Yugoslavia. Women in Black in Belgrade, women gather in Belgrade in a public place and in black and silence expresses protest against war.
