Medieval Bulgarian Literature

Medieval Bulgarian Literature

Старобългарска литература

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Bulgaria

The series "Starobalgarska literatura" begins with two miscellanies under this name (1971, 1977) which provoked great interest, so since 1978 the edition has become periodical. It carries research papers in the field of medieval Slavic literature and culture (in the context of the Byzantine and Latin civilizations), editions of unpublished old Slavonic literary works and their newly-discovered transcripts, critical reviews, surveys, information on national and international scientific events on Middle Ages, current bibliography. The journal maintains several rubrics (three of them permanent – Research papers, Critical reviews, and Bibliography). The most important published materials belong to the field of literary and cultural history and theory, source studies, textual criticism and source edition. Their authors are leading experts from all Bulgarian scientific institutions dealing with the medieval period, as well as young scholars. As a result of the international interest towards the classical period of the history of medieval Bulgarian and Slavic literature and culture, prominent foreign scholars regularly participate in the edition. The journal accepts only original research with scholarly contribution not submitted to other periodicals. The articles are in Bulgarian, English, Russian, German and French. Since 2005 they are accompanied with extensive summaries in English or in Bulgarian. The journal is distributed to more then 60 foreign scholarly institutions and scientific libraries in Europe and USA via subscription and international book exchange.

Literary Thought

Literary Thought

Литературна мисъл

Frequency: 2 issues / Country: Bulgaria

Literaturna Misal is published by the Institute of Literature at Bulgarian Academy of Science since 1957. It is one of the most respective literary editions and is the only one academic magazine of literary theory, history, criticism, and comparative studies. The magazine is on the crossroad, where different conceptions and scholarly approaches meet or face with each other. It tries to offer alternative directions to the literary researches. For this reason, numerous articles, published during the years are “beyond the leading paradigm”. The magazine encourages and stimulates interdisciplinary researches. That is why the Editorial board makes efforts to widen the interest in regional problems of the culture and especially – the interest in the multicultural characteristics of the Balkan countries and nations. The achievements of different literary schools all over the world have been presented to the Bulgarian scholars by Literaturna Misal. The magazine pays special attention to the literary attainments in the countries of Eastern Europe and seeks to present them thoroughly. By virtue of that, there are several special issues devoted to Czech, Polish, and Hungarian literary researches. Abiding by its own traditions, Literaturna Misal continues to publish many articles and chapters of books, translated into Bulgarian from English, Russian, French, and German languages. As a methodological corrective, the edition is evocated to be a moderator of several contemporary debates, in which it tries to balance among d ifferent contradictory positions and to offer solutions in the occasions of extremely eschatological formulations such as “the death of the author”, “the end of literary theory”, etc. The Board of editors shares the opinion that the magazine should always try to provoke the traditional literary conceptions and generalizations of all kinds. This is the general principle in many articles, focused both on traditional and modern literary problems, which scrutinize the processes in the field of humanitarian knowledge and the motifs of different methodological positions. In this way, the magazine enriches the Bulgarian humanitarian studies and opens up broad vistas to the new methodological and theoretical researches. Editors: Nikolay Aretov (Editor-in-chief) Editorial Board (in alphabetical order) Galin Tihanov (London) Giuseppe Dell’Agata (Pisa), Grażyna Szwat (Warsaw), Larry Wolff (New York), Marie Vrinat-Nikolov (Paris), Marko Juvan (Ljubljana), Radosvet Kolarov (Sofia), Raymond Detrez (Antwerp), Sergey Kibalnik (Saint Petersburg)
