Short Description

In the supply chain of Hungarian scientific journals, however rich it may be, one important element was missing until the late 1990s. We are speaking here about a scholarly forum representing a contemporary sociocultural point of view. Tabula as a periodical has aimed to fill this gap. It was established in 1998 by the former chief director of the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest, Zoltán Fejős.

The editing philosophy of the journal has been this: it focuses on the scientific results of young Hungarian scholars in the field of sociocultural anthropology and cultural studies. Its main aim is at promoting the perspectives of sociocultural anthropological way of thinking in Hungarian intellectual life.

Only first publications or translations appear in Tabula. The first part of the journal features studies and interviews, usually followed by a photo essay with a short introductory text. The Reviews section contains reviews about newly published scientific books, while the third part, called Inside, contains reports on current events and conferences, and possibly discussions. Studies or photo essays in the main section of the journal are reviewed by peer readers, while texts in other sections by members of the Editorial Board. Both the Authors and the invited reviewers participate in the process anonymously, if possible.
