Summary/Abstract: This sociological analysis is based on empirical data from representative public opinion surveys conducted by the Center for the Study of Democracy in May 1998, February 1999 and September 1999. Its purpose is to outline the sustainable structure of the information society space in the country as well as the degree of influence of the mass media on the Bulgarian society. The analysis of dynamics and changes in citizens' attitudes for a period of a year and a half indicates the key trends in the development of public opinion towards the media. The report outlined a number of prerequisites underlying the effective functioning of the mass media in Bulgaria.
