Summary/Abstract: The war between India and Pakistan in May 2025 demonstratedthe growing interconnectedness of long-standing border disputes,global warming, geopolitical shifts and the nuclear threat. Therecurrent conflicts over the Kashmir issue between the twonuclear-armed countries make it the world’s most dangerousgeopolitical flashpoint. The suspension of the Indus WaterTreaty by New Delhi is likely to intensify the rivalry, creating newavenues of confrontation between the two countries.The third-party involvement by the United States proves thatWashington still has influence over India–Pakistan relationsand conflict mediation in the region. Nevertheless, as the USwithdraws from the region, the European Union should step into solve the geopolitical conflict through diplomatic efforts andproactive development policies.
