Summary/Abstract: The Republic of Serbia and other European countries increasingly receive minors who migrate from geographically distant countries and who cross borders without parents, relatives or guardians. Unaccompanied minors leave their countries of origin for several reasons. Some of them are afraid of persecution, some are fleeing from war conflicts, from serious violations of human rights, social (usual) norms, as well as economic and social conditions in their countries. Sometimes they travel, willingly or unwillingly, to ensure a better future for their family members who remain in their countries of origin. They travel by bus, truck, ship, while they often cross long stretches on foot in risky areas, with the aim of reaching a country where they believe they will find peace and a better life. While on the way, the countries they pass through treat them in different ways. Their travel experiences testify that they very often find themselves in situations of extreme vulnerability, that they are exposed to various forms of abuse and neglect, the risk of becoming part of criminal networks, victims of human traffickers.
