Summary/Abstract: The formal condition for Serbia's membership in the European Union is that Serbia first achieves membership in the World Trade Organization. In the WTO accession process, Serbia was careful to maximize the benefits of future WTO membership and not to put the EU in a situation where it has to approve additional trade concessions to WTO members after Serbia's accession to the EU.
