Summary/Abstract: In the midst of the debates following the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the French elections represent, perhaps, a crucial step that will indicate whether the European Union is headed in the direction of renewal, strengthening or gradual disintegration. The election race is very uncertain until the end; voters have a wide choice between the right, the left and the center, as well as between liberal defenders of the EU, radical Eurosceptics, but also advocates of a complete revision of the European project. The question is whether the system of two electoral rounds, designed to stop extremes in such situations, will be effective this time as well: will the French, even in the post-truth era, vote with their hearts first, and in the second round with their heads?
