Summary/Abstract: One of the topics of the campaign before the elections to the European Parliament in the Czech Republic was the issue of the quality of food in comparison with the countries of the original older member states, especially Germany. It was pointed out in particular that manufacturers produce one and the same product in two qualities, one for Western consumers and the other for consumers from the Eastern EU. In the East, these lower quality products are often offered at even higher prices. Consumers from the Eastern EU states, despite having lower purchasing power, actually subsidize cheaper and higher quality products for Western consumers.
