Summary/Abstract: Gold-plating, in which the addressees of obligations are imposed with more burdensome conditions than those resulting from EU law, is a phenomenon that is undesirable in principle, unless it is duly justified. States that impose stricter conditions in their national legislation create a less favourable regulatory environment for the addressees of obligations on their territory than in countries that have opted for minimal transposition of EU law. The addressees of obligations thus have a worse environment for their competitiveness.
