Summary/Abstract: On June 14, the congress of the Front Zmin party, whose long-time chairman was Arseniy Yatsenyuk, took place in Ukraine. The congress voted to unify with the political party Batkivshchyna (Fatherland), which is still formally chaired by the imprisoned Yulia Tymoshenko. The merger of the two groups confirmed the trend from last year, when before the parliamentary elections both parties created the so-called “United Opposition”, which in practice meant that politicians from the Front Zmin ran on the Batkivshchyna candidate list. What was particularly remarkable was that although Yulia Tymoshenko was formally number one on the Batkivshchyna candidate list, she was in fact led into the elections by Yatsenyuk, who was still a member of another political party at the time.
