Summary/Abstract: Estonia holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2017. Estonia took over the role of chairman from Malta, which in the first half of 2017 coordinated the work of the Council of the European Union, defined its thematic priorities and mediated relations with other institutions of the European Union (EU). Like its predecessors, Slovakia and Malta, Estonia is taking on this role for the first time, precisely in times of challenges, strategic rethinking and turning points for the European Union.
