Summary/Abstract: In spring 1917, the leader of the Czech Agrarian Party A. Švehla was counting on the possibility that the Emperor would come to Prague and receive representatives of Czech political parties at the castle. For that case, he asked me to draft a speech that would explain to the Emperor the requests and complaints of the Czech nation. In the face strong critics of my text, I had no choice but to announce that I would publish the text of the address in the next volume of the Czech History Journal. — If anything can really "evoke astonishment", it is the fact that a worker who once wanted to teach me safer methods of scientific knowledge is shamelessly attacking my scientific honor on the basis of knowledge that is only the fruit of his imagination. Here is primarily the text of the document in question; what follows is an explanation of my participation in the struggle for the liberating idea of state law in the spring and summer of 1917.
