Summary/Abstract: The present article deals with the contentious term Central Europe and, in particular, the connotations it carries in the German press. Selected articles from the weekly magazine "Der Spiegel" and the daily "Die Welt" were used as research material. In the theoretical part, an attempt was made to define the concept of Central Europe and to identify the main characteristics of Central Europe and its constituent countries. The empirical part of the article presents examples of using the term Mitteleuropa (i.e. Central Europe) from the German press. In the context of the considerations, special attention was paid to the context of the use of the term Mitteleuropa, as well as to the countries to which it refers in a particular example. The article ends with some final conclusions based on the examples.
