Summary/Abstract: Sofia will continue to be the largest and the fastest growing city on a regional scale in the upcoming decades which will have an increasingly significant impact on the western and part of the southern Bulgarian border areas. The existing expertise and the growing economic potential of Sofia play a decisive role in the realization of the goals of the European cohesion policies and the improvement of the quality of life for the local communities, including in the border regions.
