Summary/Abstract: EU enlargement is a unique EU policy. On the one hand, it is a part of the EU’s external relations and, as frequently argued, one of the most successful elements of the European foreign policy. This specifically holds true for the EU’s enlargement eastwards in the last decade bringing peace, prosperity and stability to the historically turbulent region. On the other hand, the EU enlargement is transforming the EU itself widening its geographical scope as well as enforcing internal reform in order to enhance institutional capacity of the EU.
