Summary/Abstract: The concept of media and information literacy is not nor it can be an end in itself, i.e. it is wrong to develop it without a broader picture and contextualization of the concept into social needs and democratic values and culture. Simply put, a person, a social group, a community that is media and information literate is actually a responsible, democratically oriented, critically thinking subject, capable and interested in social participation and only as such is realized in the fullness of its MIL competences.
