Summary/Abstract: In the process of looking for solutions for the debt crisis in the European Monetary Union, leading is the standpoint of Germany. In fact Germany is the country that has the potential – economic and political – to influence in the greatest degree the developments in the monetary union. Despite disagreements of other countries in the eurozone with German positions, there is something that renders them exceptional strength and it is the successful economic model of Germany. An important factor in this respect is the significant dependence of the monetary union and European Union as a whole on the German economy. The material analyzes the reasons and consequences of the dominant German standpoint concerning the problems in the eurozone. The reasons for the dominant position of Germany are economic, as well as political. The consequences can be defined as contradictory.
