Summary/Abstract: This paper studies the forms and the motives for formation of international strategic alliances encompassing the different economic activities of the firm across the value chain. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate that the international strategic alliances are a viable alternative for the companies from the automotive industry to achieve their strategic objectives and improve their competitiveness. To achieve this goal a classification of the forms of strategic alliances in the different areas of cooperation across the value chain is made. Additionally, several examples of cooperation are outlined based on the case study approach.
