Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with the German–Swedish linguistic contacts in the Middle Ages, with their properties and consequences. First of all, due to the expansion of the Hansa League, the Scandinavian languages, among them Swedish, came under the influence of Low German. The result was the taking over of a lot of words, and with these also of word formation elements and grammatical structures; some of them are to be found today only in Swedish.
