Summary/Abstract: The author argues that active and passive involvement in real cultural life is the crucial part of literary education at school. The effects of such involvement described in this article are based on the example of a middle school class which, under the project Theater Lab, took part in several theater plays, ensuing discussions and even staged a short play. The pupils’ behavior is presented against the background of civilizational and social changes which are a result of dominance of the virtual world over the real one, play over responsibility, and performativity over contemplation and emotions over rationality. The author shows that a didactically planned cultural experiment can correct some of teenagers’ habits and enrich their interpretational creativity.
