Summary/Abstract: The article prestents the possibilities coming from realising poststructural theories in literature when working with contemporary poetry on 4th level of education — this is by completing a group of tasks concentrated on The joy of writing by Wisława Szymborska, basing on the concept of hermeneutics. The imperative of article is to prove that poststructural strategies of interpretation, such as hermeneutics, enable contemporary student to deepen the interpretation of a contemporary piece of poetry. The use of these strategies in school environment creates an opportunity for a real dialog between a student and contemporary poetry. The basis to achieve that is analysing the poem by Szymborska at school. Thanks to this, the students, through their analysis and interpretation, will open up for a dialog with the Other. The Other being the cultural text; students own identity, as well as The Other being another student and their point o view. The painting Milkmaid (Vermeer) is used as context and helps students broaden the scale of reception of Szymborska’s poem, their interpretation, as well as brings the opportunity to reflect deeper on their own existence.
