Summary/Abstract: The article presents three action lines, which give the opportunity to restore to literature its place in the world of unwilling contemporary students. The first of them is the development of young people’s sense of the literature value, the second is associated with responsibility for the extracurricular reading taken by the teachers, and the third covers any initiative aimed at developing positive attitudes to reading. All these activities involve engaged model of the reading, requiring the reader’s personal response to literature. These theses are based both on the presented results of empirical research, as well as on the examples of successful models to encourage reading in practice of abroad didactics.
