Summary/Abstract: The article analyses and describes a topology of “non-habitation”; dehumanization; and spiritual alienation which can be identified in many Nazi concentration camps during World War II. The analysis brings to the foreground typical places of horror and agony – such as the ghetto; the camp; the ramp; the barracks; the laboratory; the gas chamber; the crematorium – which formed the route followed by prisoners on the shortest path to their death. Each of these spaces comes with its own existential absurdity and its own semantics of suffering; as Lidia Ostałowska convincingly describes in her volume of reportages titled Farby wodne [Watercolours] (2011). By displaying literary; historical; documentary and commemorative traits; the Ostałowska’s inter-genre writing offers the premises for an interdisciplinary interpretative perspective constructed by employing spatial and experiential structures that aim to objectively reconstruct the life on both sides of the “death march”.
