Summary/Abstract: In Poland, populism cannot be regarded as a recent phenomenon. If we consider only the 20th century, a few populist movements of different character can be pointed out. Moreover, the most influentia lpopulist movements were a part of the fight for Poland’s independence. Therefore, an unequivocal judgment of populism as a threat to democracy and as a negative phenomenon is impossible
