Summary/Abstract: The author of the paper analyses the Russian translation of the poem by Wisława Szymborska, Lot’s Wife, made by a famous translator of Polish poetry and prose, Asar Eppel. The poem is based upon a Biblical event described in the Book of Genesis: the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The poem is built of a sequence of causative structures in which the title heroine explains away her looking back that resulted in her being turned into a pillar of salt. The translator renders adequately successive causative structures, however he uses high register lexemes much more often than the author of the original version.
