Summary/Abstract: Introduction to the edited book on modelling transnationalism and migration. The term "transnationalism" became popular in the 1990s and assuch academic researchers responded to migratory growth toglobal level thus defining it by the same actors as “those networks, activities and life patterns that encompass both host societiesand of origin ”(Glick-Schiller, Basch and Blanc-Szanton 1992). Explaining themigration from the south to the north of the Caribbean and Mexico to the United States betweenother migratory flows, these scholars inquired beyond geographyand from push-pull economies to reassess mobility and exploregender issues (Georges 1992; Sutton 1992); belonging (Feldman-Bianco 1992; Richman 1992), class and race (Goldberg 1992; Rouse 1992).
