Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is a synthetic explication of value as a category of natural languages. The author treats evaluation in the processes of linguistic activity as a kind of semantic determination of the sentence (or text) elements. Using the notions of standard/norm, parameter of categorization, value scale, etc., the author proposes three types of norms (as the reference points in the evaluation processes): ideal, supposed and real. Other issues that are discussed in the article include the content of the evaluation frame and the structure of the category of value.
