Summary/Abstract: Formative assessment is the kind of assessment which prioritizes helping to facilitate the learning process above the assessment of knowledge gained by the student once the learning process has been completed. The article elaborates on the characteristics of formative assessment in the context of facilitating the learning process, and presents selected techniques of formative assessment which can be used in early foreign language education (Kindergarten and Grades 1–3).
