Summary/Abstract: Formative assessment is an important step in the process of teaching/learning a foreign language. It allows the teacher to obtain information about the actual level of language proficiency of students, i.e. their strengths and weaknesses, which in turn allows to optimize the methods and content of teaching. This article discusses the way in which the study of language transfer enabled the author to create web-based teaching materials adapted to the needs of students learning French as a third language (after Polish and English).
