Summary/Abstract: This chapter examines the complex interconnection between corruption and the rule of law, testing three key hypotheses regarding the cause-and-effect relationships between the Rule of Law Index and various global metrics, including the Corruption Perceptions Index, the Global Corruption Index, and the Environmental, Social and Governance Index. Utilizing correlation and regression analysis tools across a dataset of 115 countries, the study demonstrates extraordinarily strong links between strict adherence to the rule of law and lower levels of public sector corruption, reduced corruption risks in private and public institutions, and better protection of human rights and the environment. The findings indicate that a country with a high level of corruption cannot prioritize the rule of law, emphasizing the need for improved social-level mechanisms and public accountability to effectively combat corrupt behaviors and abuses of official positions.
