Summary/Abstract: In this study, I present my findings from an analysis of written communications from the municipal offices of 13 Hungarian-majority settlements in southern Slovakia. The research began after the law on minority language use was put into effect, and continues to this day, with new municipal offices being included in it. In this paper, I present the results of this research for the referenced period and put it in comparison with the most recent data published by the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for National Minorities. Due to length constraints, the following segments of the researched topic are discussed in this study: 1. the language used in written information regarding current legislation; 2. the language used in written communication between the municipal office and the minority language speaking client; 3. the language used in the response given to the clients´ submissions in a minority language; 4. the language of communication between the municipality and the institutes within its jurisdiction, as well as institutions outside its jurisdiction; 5. the language of forms issued by the municipality within its own jurisdiction.
