Summary/Abstract: Following the example of numerous editions of the diaries of senior commanders of the Civil War (1861–1865) in the United States of America, the author postulates the critical development and publication of a selected canon of memories of independent commanders of armed units of the January Uprising (1863–1864). The proposed edition concerns ten previously published accounts of insurrectionist commanders (Edmund Callier, Antoni Jeziorański, Roman Rogiński, Bronisław Deskur, Józef Miniewski, Ludwik Żychliński, Zygmunt Miłkowski, Zygmunt Rzewuski-Krzywda, Karol Kalita-Rębajło, Józef Oksiński) and two manuscripts (Władysław Cichorski-Zameczek, Maksymilian Wacław Broniewski).
